Throwback Thursday- 1948 Wedding in Tennessee

Hi Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint,

My mother scrapbooked for years so I still have her big book but this picture came from my cousin Ron who sent it to me last year. I am guessing my mother's dress and hat were navy blue but it is hard to tell the colors with black and white photos.

It is fun to see the changes in the past 60 years. The gloves are pretty much gone now.

Yes it is run to see old photos and look at all the details. My mother would meet up with my dad in the 40's mainly during  the war and so they would take photos together and she would keep them in her scrapbook.Then when they were transferred to Alaska, I only can find 2 or 3 photos but I think they did not like the cold weather.

Yes, and the photos for a photo like this were taken with a photographer and not just a brownie camera. So they had to pay for the more expensive photos which were processed and saved on hard cardboard. They wanted to preserve a special moment and I appreceiate it as well. Unfortunately, everyone in the photo has passed.

Yes and this was just after the war so silk was still at a premium. My mother told me during the war she would be walking down the street and run and get in a line knowing it was usually something good that was scarce; silk stockings, chocolate, coffee and yes even cigars (she didn't like the cigars).

No I wasn't born yet but it is in good condition probably because it was done by a professional photographer. It has been framed for many years so that probably keeps it safe from the enviromental effects.

Yes corsages are lovely and I can tell it was a happy wedding. I am glad my dad could be there as he was always away flying on missions even after the war.

My favorite time is the 40's as I loved the clothes, shoes, hats and the way they curled their hair. My mom told me that they had rolls that you would curl your hair around to give it that perfect roll but I cannot remember what she called it.

Yes it was a very happy wedding and looks like they spared no expense for the dresses and photographer.

Thanks for the kind words and I love the styles and clothing back then. I always remember my dad in uniform until 1965 so it is was fun to see them at my aunt's wedding dressed like this. I especially love the long gloves and hat. My mom always wore a hat!
