The ActiveRain Community Guidelines

Respect the Real Estate Community

The ActiveRain Guidelines are a key component of our network, something that every member should be aware of and adhere to. As part of the blogging challenge hosted by Lynn Friedman, participants are to write 24 articles by the end of January, one of which must be about the AR Guidelines.

This makes so much sense since these Guidelines help structure what the AR network is all about and how members are to act, amongst themselves and before the public eye, and is a good reminder for those who might not be familiar with them nor taken time to read them. When was the last time YOU read them?!

Respect for each otherWe are a huge network of real estate professionals in all aspects of the industry from around the country and Canada. Members are the face of the real estate business, for each other, but more importantly for consumers who read articles they find here directly or through their Internet searches.

Real estate is a very visible business, when you consider the number of homes that are sold each year and the number of people involved in real estate transactions. Indeed, the real estate industry is a vital, impactful component of our economy, and as such is often on the forefront of media reporting, government action and legislation, and criticism.

Respect for the real estate community is essentialRespect for each other and for the real estate community at large is essential, in our daily practices, as well as on this public forum.

A tremendous opportunity exists for all members to increase the professional standards, business practices, and perception in the real estate industry by our online conduct, and the information we share with each other and with consumers.

Hello Jeff - I agree. Mutual respect should be observed not just here in AR, but also in our day-to-day encounter with our co-Realtor. Great reminder Jeff.

Thanks Jeff.  I do believe that the "guidelines" are a bit disorganized but I can live with it.

Thanks Jeff!  There will always be those who don't adhere to guidelines, but sometimes inadvertently.  It's great to keep reminding each other.

Thank you, Bill. To you as well in 2015

Cara - it's critical in our business, on AR, and in life in general isn't it?

Andrew - love the graphic. I should have done one

Roy - I think some are simply not aware, and others may not care. And then there is the issue of monitoring, and taking action on those who are not behaving

Richie - I can definitely say the same about you. What a nice compliment!!

Charita - sadly that is the case. And it's not just on AR but social media, and life in general.

Thanks, Sharon. I also love the idea of the contest, too, and trying to keep up both with writing as well as reading entries.

Thanks you, Patty

Lenn - not sure when they were last updated, and no doubt they could provide some more structure to all the links

Jayne - agreed. I think most know how to behave and show respect but we do see some bad behavior from time to time.

Kevin - I think that is true for the most part. And it seems that people will point out when others are not behaving

Playing nice with others is something we learned to do, or were supposed to learn back in grade school. The Guidelines of AR are there so that we can all get along in a harmonious manner

Raymond - everyone needs some sort of guidelines sometime

Alexandra - thank you! True here and IRL

Mike - not at all. It is part of a January 2915 challenge to write about the guidelines - see the link at the start of my post.

Ed - and I think most learned how to play well in the sandbox, and out. Some seem to have forgotten.

Joan

I think it's true for most situations but there have been a few situations where I could not respect the other agent (or a vendor) for something they did. But I would still treat them professionally

Congratulations on your featured post! I hope everyone gets to read this post, knows, and understand the guidelines too. In general, I've noticed that common courtesy is lacking in many of our businesses today. Here on AR and whenever we use Social Media, respect has to honored and maintained. We create the image that the public perceives and anytime we write a post, we must be respectful of others, just as you say. Thank you for such a well written post on this topic of high importance Jeff.

Jeff, it's such a great motivator to read the ActiveRain Guidelines once a year when Lynn does her challenge, and respect is a huge part of our business and ActiveRain.

Jeff - respect for the community is key.  Let me say as a blogger who is not actually a Realtor, I find the members of AR to be the most honorable and best around.  People buy the person not that they sell real estate.  Value of the person stands out in so many of these AR blogs.
