What If Your Buyers Want To Buy A Home Next To A Cemetery?

Real Estate Agent with Cell: 703-677-1120

woodbridge virginia real estate newsPretend your buyers have shopped the market, seen dozens of houses online, and have been inside six houses.

Their favorite house is next to a cemetery.  Your buyers want you to advise them on the upside and downside of living next to a cemetery.

*The neighbors would be very quiet.

* People are DYING to move in next door to you.

*Interesting conversation starter when you throw a party for your friends.

*The neighbors would not attend your house warming party.

*No playmates next door for your kids.

*Occasional interment ceremonies.

I had a listing many years ago that was next to a 1/4 acre cemetery.  The house was beautiful inside and out.

It took a little long to sell.  Feedback from buyers oftened referred to the cemetery as a negative for religious reasons.  Others said it didn't comply with their feng shui.

Some of the graves were of civil war soldiers who fought in the battles of Manassas.  In the end it sold to on of my buyers who was an Army Colonel and a civil war buff.

One man's ceiling is another man's floor.

For me I think it would be a nice feature since I do love quiet.  Would also depend on if the area was well maintained.  At least  you could go over and talk to them and they would not disagree with anything you had to say.

Simple market value would advise against it.

I've had buyers looking in a price range and the best new home lot for sale was next to a cemetary.

You should have heard how the builder's rep danced around that one.

HA!  My buyers were Asian.  No way.

Interesting Erick! I haven't thought of that which is strange since there are a lot of cemeteries here in St. Thomas, unusually so for such a small island. Most of the surrounding plots are commercial though.

Erick Blackwelder All valid points you made here in your blog post. My preference would be to not live there, but, as you pointed out, others would have no problem.
