The College Station-Bryan community has received many accolades over the last few years. Livability gave it the top spot on their America's Best College Towns in 2012. It ranked #3 on Kiplinger's Greatest Places to Live in 2013. Forbes named it as the second best city on its Best Cities for Business and Careers list in 2014. College Station-Bryan makes another "best" list yet again. The Milken Institute ranked it as #8 on its list of Best Performing Small Metros.
The Milken Institute is a well respected non-profit, non-partisan think tank located in Santa Monica, CA. They gathered economic data on 200 small metro areas across the country to compare against each other. This data included job and wage growth, high tech GDP concentration and growth and the number of high tech industries operating with in the area. Wages in College Station-Bryan are 22% higher than the national average. Both short-term and long-term job growth has increased significantly. The biggest employer in the area, Texas A&M, has benefited greatly from its reputation as a top-notch research hub. Their Biocorridor will be hitting even larger strides once the 100,000 square foot manufacturing facility is completed in 2017. This facility will eventually manufacture vaccine for pandemic influenza.
College Station-Bryan jumped from #38 on the Milken Institute's list in 2013 to #8 in 2014. They were one of three small Texas metros to make this list: Victoria ranks #3 while Midland sits in the #6 spot. On the institute's Best Performing Large Metros, half of the top 10 spots were held by cities right here in Texas: Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos came in at #2, Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown ranked #7, Forth Worth-Arlington was #8, Dallas-Plano-Irving was #9 and San Antonio-New Braunfels capped off the list at #10. The low cost of doing business here in Texas combined with a well-educated work force has proven to be a productive combo.
College Station-Bryan makes another "best" list. This is just the latest in their growing list of City Accolades. I am positive, however, that it will not be their last!
