Take a Tour of The Oldest Brewery in Charlotte, NC

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery opened in March 2009 and is the oldest brewery here in Charlotte, NC.

I thought this time lapse video of the building of the

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery was very interesting.

The founder is John Marrino from the Boston area.  In his words and his reasoning for wanting to establish a brewery were ... "He realized Charlotte didn't have a brewery.  He also thought about how much he missed the fantastic beer he used to drink in places like Duesseldorf, Herford and Munich while living in Germany.  And he knew how disappointed he was that he couldn't get that wonderful, fresh beer in Charlotte like he did at the breweries in Germany.  His solution?  Return to Charlotte and open a brewery, producing world-class German-style beer.  He was convinced that the people in Charlotte would be able to taste the difference just like he did."

They have quite a line up of beers and you can visit their website to see the many locations where you can enjoy a beer from the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery.

They also offer tours which would be a fun outing if you have family and friends visiting from out of town.

Judith how interesting, when I came back from Germany  after living there for four years, the American Beers were virtually tasting like water...and there were not too many choices. That was around 1983... shortly around that time there were these four guys who got laid off from their "real jobs" and started the Samuel Adams Co. in Boston and they made a good product:)Endre
