Brooksville Raid Civil War Reenactment 2014
The 2015 Annual Brooksville Raid Civil War Reenactment  is an reenactment of a battle that took place in the Brooksville, Florida, area in July of 1864.

Every year, hundreds of reenactors and thousands of visitors come to the area for this two day event.

There are plenty of things to do with the whole family - you don't need to be a civil war buff!  Both, the "confederate" and "union" soldier camps are open to the public and you can see how the troops lived along the battle lines during the Civil War.

If shopping is more your thing, then visit the many merchants or "sutlers" located in the merchant area offering everything from soldier's uniforms, boots, ladies dresses and finery, to kitchen utensils, and even children toys.

Sample some authentic food items including fry bread, root beer, and strawberry shortcake made from fresh strawberries. After all, it's January in Florida and our strawberries are in season!

Entertainment is by the "#7 of Bacon Mess Band" and you can be sure, they'll be playing some catchy tunes!

The battles will begin at 2 pm on both days.  If you want to rent a chair, make sure to get there early.  You may bring your own chairs or blankets.  Then enjoy the excitement of the show across the battlefield with cannons, gun shots, smoke, and noise - you never know what happens next!

Insider Tips!

The weather in January can be a little unpredictable so it's best to dress in layers.  Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven.  You can bring water and snacks but alcoholic beverages will not be allowed.

Chair rental is available but make sure to get there early as they rent out quickly or bring your own chairs and blankets.  Dogs are to be kept on a leash at all times.

Bring your cameras and maybe even binoculars to watch the action!

Most of all, enjoy!

These reenactments are really neat to see. It's also a great history lesson for both the kids and the parents. Just walking through the camps sheds a whole new light on what the war was like.

Roy Kelley  it sure will!  There's never a shortage of great opportunities and scenes at these events.

Lou Ludwig thank you, I do agree.

Karen Kruschka one year, they enacted the battle of Manassas here in a smaller scale of course than what you must be used to.  It was still impressive and you learn a lot about the history of these battles and the war in general.
