Light My Fire!

Morning in CT

Ha, got you!  There's nothing like getting the morning chill to dissipate than a roaring fire in the fireplace!!  One of the reasons my husband and I bought our Circa 1900 house;  it has three fireplaces!  Oh, to decide which one to use today!

All kidding aside, I have been very remiss in my blogging.  Hence, this is my attempt at beginning once again and to let you know that the topic, for awhile, will be the progression of remodeling and updating our home.

My husband, George, is a contractor who is an awesome fine trim carpenter.  With a bit of time on his hands between jobs, he looked at our ugly, old, dreary kitchen and said to me, "I'm going to finally remodel our kitchen; it should be completed by April."  All righty then .... I figured April was coming, regardless; it might as well come with a new kitchen. AWESOME!!

Here's the catch ... George decided that homes built in 1900 have lots of little rooms, so he said, "Let's rip out all those little rooms and make one BIG room."  Is your imagination going wild?  Well, it should be because we are now living with ONE bathroom (upstairs) and NO kitchen and the entire back half of our house is down to the studs!!  Oh, did I mention that the temperatures here have been FRIGID!

Are you prepared to watch the transformation?  It's going to be fun (I think). HaHaHa. I already have many photos that need to be put in some semblance of order and labeled, so give me a bit of time to perform a miracle.

Hang in there, and I will try to make 'some' sense of everything.  Please feel free to let me know if I am no longer completing my sentences or have the ability to laugh at myself or the circumstances.

So far cooking while wearing my winter coat, muffler, earmuffs and mittens is still amusing. However, it's quickly losing my interest - FAST.

Any and all suggestions and humor will be MOST appreciated. Encouragement is welcome at all times.

Stay tuned, and until next time ..... Light My Fire!!

Being cold stinks -- I'm sure the end result will be worth it.

Can't wait to read more about this project.

The coldest I've ever been in my life is when I've been at the homes of people who were living in very old houses.

Fred, that's mean!  I'm a Realtor in Sarasota, also.  This is 'the' best time to be in Florida; awesome weather.  However, I do love have a blazing fire in the fireplace.  Enjoy Tallahassee; it's beautiful there!

Good morning Ginger - it's exciting, for sure.  However, I must admit that the 'process' is a bit daunting.  My suggestion:  have a husband who does such fabulous work that you can't wait to see the outcome!

Praful, you probably have a fire going, also! New England winters certainly are better with a roaring fire.  Thank you for welcoming me back.  Now I have to gear up and show everyone the progress!!

Hi Laura - Yes, Fred did have to remind us of that lovely weather in Florida.  I'll keep everyone 'posted' on the progress.  Keep your fingers crossed! However, knowing George's talent, I'm not concerned just 'ready' to be warm.

Good morning Kat ~ yes, being cold is not my favorite. Especially when trying to cook wearing mittens or gloves.  Thank goodness George hasn't taken any pictures of that!!

Nina ~ these old homes have little to NO insulation.  Oh, and a few other things that we've discovered along the way.  Pictures will be coming .... Oh, and next winter, I will be WARM!

Hi Russ.  He 'promised' me April / May.  As I said, April will be arriving with or without a new kitchen, bathroom and laundry (out of the basement!!!), so I opted for new!! Yay ....

Warm your bones by the fire... sometimes it is dual purpose, food is prepared and cooked with the positive ions we all enjoy.

I can't wait to see the final results of the remodel. And, as a person who is transitioning from a sunny warm place to a sunny- sometimes cold place I agree that there is nothing quite like a toasty fire.

Hi Chuck!  I'm still trying to organize all of the photos.  I have to find some 'beginning' ones so people know how it looked prior to the disaster it is now! Stay tuned ....

Btw, you're transitioning from where to where?
