Toni and Vegas Bob go back so many years at the ActiveRain network, and I really like this post she recently wrote about Spam.

And just a little more history about Spam ...

Spam was created for the war many years ago in the state of Minnesota.

And Spam is eaten my a very large percentage of Hawaiians, they wrap a thin slice of Spam with sticky rice and then cover the sticky rice with this seaweed wrap ... "Yummy" and please go directly to Toni's post and leave her a comment ;o)

"Thanks"

The Latest In Spam Fashion

This is a new one on me.  They usually don't go into such detail.

"This is the official notice of unclaimed fund left by my late client, a citizen of your country, who died as a result of tragic car accident. After all inquiries and investigations even with the relevant embassy to locate his relatives has yielded no results, I decided to track his last name over the Internet to locate any Member of his family, hence I contacted you.
Upon your positive response to this message, I will make all necessary
information known to you."

I'm betting I don't know the guy.

 The Latest In Spam Fashion

Does anyone know how this stuff came to be called spam? Not the product, the junk emails.

The origin of the term is based on a Monty Python skit from 1970. In the skit, all the items on a restaurant's menu are basically  Spam. The waitress repeats the word, and a group of Vikings sing "Spam, Spam, Spam" until they are told to stop.

Supposedly, the use of the word Spam came to mean junk or fake mail, based on the fact that unwanted Spam kept popping up all over the menu.

This sounds very convoluted to me but then that's Monty for you.

We ate Spam occasionally when I was growing up. I still think it is way too salty. Glad I can decide what to eat now.

Good evening VB. I do remember the skit well. But then, the Britts do love their spam and 'numble pie. You will have to look that one up in your Funk & Wagnels.

VB, I actually like Spam, but haven't eaten any in a long while...maybe I should move to Hawaii? Anyway, I'm off to Toni Weidman's post to find out where spam got its name.
