Organizing To Sell Your Home

Sell Your Home

Living in your home for a long time you tend to collect "Stuff", getting your home ready to sell can seem overwhelming Organizing To Sell Your Homeat times, but you can do it! The real estate market in Madison and Huntsville Alabama and the surrounding areas are already heating up, so if you are considering selling your home this year, now is the time. Make i your New Year's resolution to get started early. That way, whether you decide to sell your home or not, your home is organized and easier to maintain.

This link; SELLING YOUR HOME provides more information about selling your home for the most money in the least time.

Tips To Sell Your Home

6 Ideas to help you get organized not!

1.) Remove the clutter and stop adding to it. If your routine is to purchase multiples of sale items, stop! Or, if these are items you use all the tim, reduce the number of multiple items to no more than you will use in a month or so. The more room you have on your shelves and in your closets the less cluttered your home will look.

2.) You need to have a plan where things are going to go or be stored during the listing period. Set aside boxes or bags to handle items you plan to give to charity, family members or sell at a garage sale.

3.) Baby steps; take small steps and choose one manageable task at a time. With smaller tasks you will have a greater success rate of completion and not be overwhelmed by larger daunting tasks such as cleaning out an attic or garage. Pick a drawer, closet, medicine cabinet, shelving or boxes that have been packed and not seen the light of day for years. Just complete one task a day or every other day.

4.) You'll need to create piles or groups of things for charity, keeping or disposal...deal with those items and don't look back.

5.) We all tend to collect lots of paperwork, find a way to organize or eliminate it. There are important papers that we need such as: birth and marriage certificates, contracts, etc., however, some things can be kept digitally in much less space. Consider an organizing scanner that can scan receipts, bills, business cards, etc.

6.) If you have things that you no longer use then get rid of them. I know people who keep things for years without use just because a family member gave it to them. If you're still storing that Wok given to you by an Aunt or Uncle years ago and you never use it then donate it to charity or have a garage sale. You can always create a virtual scrapbook of things that have a sentimental value that were received as a gift and who gifted them...write a special memory about the giver and let go...you need the space!

Organizing is just the first step toward preparing to sell your home.

I can help you plan for your home sale by walking through your home and showing you what items to consider fixing or updating, items of furniture you might want to pass on or put into storage to prepare your home for staging and things to consider to add curb appeal. I realize these are just the first steps getting ready to sell your home, but they are important.  Making needed repairs and enlisting the help of a Home Staging professional such as Kathy Streib is a must. Check Kathy out at her website. Thank all of you for your great comments. I'll be by later to visit your individual posts.

It is amazing how much stuff we can collect in a year and multiply that by several years. I make a habit of donating things I don't use and throwing out items that are broken and can't serve anyone else.

Those are good tips for anyone - even those who aren't thinking of selling! I'm guilty of hanging on to things I don't use because of their sentimental attachment.

Dealing with potential sellers that have toy overload going on in their current place.  It is going to be challenging to reign the situation in.

I am one of those people that constantly purge items we no longer use and since we are contemplating moving a few miles from here this year, I have refrained from purchasing new items.....just more to move.

Everytime I come from visiting a cluttered home it motivates me to get rid of some of my stuff too. We get so attached to things that we have not used for years. My motto for this year is Live and LET GO!

Clutter is a disease as a result of too many things to do in a day and not enough time to put things away or take inventory or stay organized. We all have to stop the madness and you nailed it with this one Nick!!!

I have a client/friend who never discards anything.  She piles everything in the garage helter-skelter and she dreads moving.  Who wouldn't?  Controlling the clutter and being organized are key to reducing the stress associated with selling a property.
