As a photographer, I strive to be a minimalist.
Using artsy terms, I try to capture the feeling of a moment or the essence of a scene with as little in the image as possible.
In this image, my wife and oldest daughter enjoy the sea on Assateague Island MD in the fall. Because you cannot see their faces, it gives the image a more universal feeling of relationship. In my opinion.
My wife always wants to see people's faces in an image because that is how she relates to photographs. I advise her to take her own photographs.
For me, this image captures the feeling I have for my family as well as the best of that place.
If you are new to creating your own art, don't worry if it is not what someone else would choose or make. Do what brings you satisfaction and meaning.
(However, when my wife tells me to take a particular shot...I take it.)
