What's Happened in Carlsbad in the Last 10 Years
I moved to Carlsbad from Boston almost 10 years ago, April 22nd marking that momentous day we moved into our home in La Costa after a cross-county drive.
I was thinking about all that has changed, especially on the real estate side of things (it’s an occupational hazard), since we moved here.
These planned communities/subdivisions were built, adding thousands of housing units to Carlsbad, with more to come:
La Costa Greens (I believe it’s 10 villages)
La Costa Ridge
La Oaks (several new communities were added to this existing neighborhood)
Bressi Ranch (including the shopping center, Bressi Village, and the office space)
The Foothills at Carlsbad
53 Melrose
The Bay Collection
The La Costa Collection (townhouse condos)
Arterro – later phases being built
Montecina
BluWater (townhouse and loft-style condos)
The Bluffs (condos)
The Tides
Voscana (townhouse condos)
Vista del Mar
La Costa Villas (vacation condos built at the La Costa Resort)
Calavera Hills – new neighborhoods added to this planned community
New Communities (under construction):
Toll Brothers at Robertson Ranch
Casero
Other notable changes:
The La Costa Town Square Shopping Center was built
Bressi Village Shopping Center was built
Bressi Ranch Corporate Center (lease and owned office space)
Alga Norte Community Park was completed
Carlsbad Safety Training Center constructed
Amtrak added Carlsbad to its list of coastal stops
The real estate bubble burst, the downturn occurred and we are now in a strong seller’s market with less than 3 months of inventory
Omni Resorts acquired the famed La Costa Resort, now known as the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa
Carlsbad Desalination Plant was approved and construction commenced
The Crossings at Carlsbad municipal golf course was opened
The Four Seasons Aviara Resort changed hands (management) and became the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort
The new high school, Sage Creek High School, was built
The Carlsbad wildfires ravaged areas in South Carlsbad in May 2014
