Electrical Safety

Electrical Safety

Don't overload electrical outlets/circuits.

In many older homes, the capacity of the wiring system has not kept pace with today's modern appliances. Overloaded electrical systems create fire hazards. Watch for these signals of overload: dimming lights when an appliance goes on, a shrinking TV picture, slow heating appliances, or fuses blowing frequently.

Call a qualified electrician to get expert help. Do not run extension cords under rugs or carpets and replace any that are cracked, frayed or have loose connections.

Great advice Roy, electricity is something that needs to be respected. A professional is a good choice.

Roy Kelley, safety is always important in respect to electricity.   In Palm Springs, we have a lot of homes built in the 50's and older.  You do see some very unusal wiring at times for additions & garages.  Good advice.

good advise - home inspectors and electricians would sing your praises! :)  I was just at a home that had a crazy extension cord through the ceiling tiles in the basement - I told them it would proably come up in their home inspection and it did!

This is such important information for people to take seriously! I feel so badly for the family in Annapolis with that house fire from a Christmas tree light circuit!

Hi, Roy. This is very sound advice. I live in a home that is very old. I've had the electrical checked out. It's old, but OK, and I can live with it for now.

That's good advice, Roy!  The demands of today's technology and modern conveniences can quickly overload an old electrical service panel.
