3 Part Formula - Create A R.E. Breakthrough In 2015

breakthrough year in real estateOver the holiday season I was able to get away and spend some quality family time and read one of my favourite books of 2014. “The Carpenter” by Jon Gordon and Ken Blanchard. This book had a section that really resonated with me about having the best year ever and not letting 2015 be like all the other years in my life.

WHAT DOES YOUR BEST YEAR IN REAL ESTATE AND LIFE LOOK LIKE?

Creating your biggest year ever in real estate begins with having the end in mind and working backwards. Many of us can see what the year “could be”. Very few of us take the time to write out what the year looked liked when it was finished, even before the year began. So here are some very powerful questions to ask yourself to create that plan and design the year and life you were created to live.

 

  • What does it look like when you are at your healthiest, strongest and best?
  • What does your family and friend situation look like while you are pursuing your success at work?
  • Are you ignoring the people you love most or making more time for them?
  • What matters to you the most?
  • What priorities drive you each day?
  • What are you doing that makes you come alive?
  • What are you doing to live and share your purpose?
  • When you look back on your life what do you want to be able to say about it?
  • How do you want to feel?
  • What will you have wanted to accomplish?
  • What legacy will you have left?
  • What stories do you want others to be telling about you years from now?
  • Is it time to ask these questions about my own life?

 

Many of my coaching clients share with me that they know about goals and hear about goals and know how important goals are to having a better year in real estate and life. The problem is for most of them they have no idea what a goal is or the process of creating goals or how they can implement goals into their breakthrough year. I remember the story about the old man that stands out in the water and asks the young man to come out and join him. The old man takes the young man and holds him down under the water and holds him down even longer, while the young man is kicking and fighting for his life. The old man then lifts the young man out of the water and says to the young man that a goal is something you want so bad, just like how bad you wanted to come up for a breath of air. A goal is something you want so bad you would do anything to get it. A goal is… Your “why”… Your “purpose”… Your reason for getting out of bed every day. Your goal is something that burns inside you and something you want and desire. Humans are driven by only two emotions. Either something you are moving away from (pain) or something you’re moving towards (pleasure). As you determine these goals then I like to find pictures, images of each goal and display them somewhere you see them everyday. Like the bathroom mirror, the fridge, your desk or in your car. I like having my coaching clients create a collage key chain and attach them to their car keys. You begin to become what you think about and envision most, which are these goals you set. Being completely transparent about my own life and my struggle with my physical health and weight. Here is my 2015 goal I set for myself that gives you some idea of creating a breakthrough!

  • Eat my 5 small meals a day, packing healthy lunches and eating out less. Use my fitness pal app when eating out. No special coffee drinks and diet soda. Take sugar out of diet.
  • Cardio on my treadmill on my off day workouts including Saturday and Sunday. On Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun. Get an indoor trainer for my rode bike and ride to change up cardio.
  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday training with my personal trainer Kevin and no excuses. 4-5 pm.
  • Lose 40 pounds by the time I leave for France on July 24th, 2015. Goal weight 225 lbs.
  • Be happier and healthier Wade with more energy and look and feel better about myself.
  • MY WHY? Look better, respect myself, confidence, image, heart, blood pressure, stress management, see more, do more with my wife and children, be more, active lifestyle, live longer, make a bigger impact on others.

SUCCESS UPDATE: As of today I have already dropped 8 pounds since beginning pursuing my new goal on January 1st of this year.

 

My final part of the success formula is to only set goals every 60-90 days. We have all heard the saying “Success is the sum of small actions repeated over and over.” If we don’t like the direction of our boat then every 60-90 days we can set a new sail and change the course of our lives. The exciting part of setting goals every 60-90 days is being able to celebrate success over a shorter period of time and see yourself checking goals off as they are completed and seeing new goals being set over the process. Set goals in these 5 areas and not just in one area of your life…

  1. You – mentally, physically and emotionally
  2. Financial Freedom
  3. Relationships
  4. Spiritual and Happiness
  5. Professional.

As you grow and breakthrough your purpose, your drive and meaning for life changes and so will the goals you set along the way. I hope this 3 part formula of finishing your breakthrough year before it begins, knowing what a goal is and the process of creating those goals and only setting your sail every 60-90 days can create a 2015 like no other year you have experienced before.
