Updated Bathrooms Can Make a Home Sell

Bathrooms can sell homes.

Next to the kitchen, bathrooms are some of the most important rooms in a house because they are expensive to update.

Before and After BathroomMake the bathrooms more appealing by replacing the toilet seat, add plush towels and new shower curtains.  Toss the toilet hugging rugs and lids covers. This will make a huge difference.  The fresh towels may not peak a buyer’s interest but will make it look more attractive.

If the bathrooms are outdated, remove the wall paper and paint the walls, replace the faucet and hardware on the cabinets and hang a more updated light fixture.  Additional updates can be made by re-glazing the sink or tub, re-grouting, changing the light fixtures, towels bars, faucets and shower head.  If the cabinetry is grungy, clean, prime and paint it.

Purge the medicine and storage cabinets.  Storage space sells.

Buyers love “new,” so your goal should be to create a feeling of “new.”  A clean fresh home gives the impression your home has been lovingly maintained.  Clean everything and make it sparkle.

Updated bathrooms can make a home sell.

Hannah, If I were a buyer, I wouldn't give a dirty bath a second look.

Carla, in so many cases, a mere good cleaning and fresh towels will make the bathroom so much more appealing.

William, Yes I agreed, clean baths and kitchens seem to be No.1 in the eyes of a buyer.

Bob, Lighting can sell a room, no doubt.  If you can't see it, you can't sell it.

Joe, Kitchens and Baths seem to be the most important rooms to buyers.  Personally, if I were to buy a resale, I'd want the bath to be updated so at least I could "clean up" in order to get a good night's sleep.

Gita, At times, it seems many homeowners are at a losss as to where to begin with their updates.  They just need the guidance of a good agent.

Kathleen, If you take the cost of updating the kitchen v. bath, the bath is the less expensive.  As a seller, I would begin with the bath first.

Bet, So true. Outdated baths are a huge turnoff to buyers. Some small changes can make a big improvement.

Roy, Some sellers seem to underestimate the value of clean, which is the least expensive way to improve the visual of a bath.

Endre, The majority of bathrooms can easily be upgraded with a minimal amount of money, but a lot of elbow grease.

Bette- you are so right about this one.   Today's buyers want it move-in ready and don't have the time or often the extra funds to budget for updates.
