Get the "Monkey" off Your Back
I attended a lecture by Terry Watson recently where we were encouraged to quit carrying around our clients, friends, and family's monkeys.
For instance, if the fascia wood on the exterior of a home was driving away potential clients for one of your listings, all because the seller refused to do the repairs, "it's not your monkey"!
Or, if a family member could benefit from marital counseling but instead just uses us as a sounding board...for years...."it's not your monkey".
I'm sure you get the idea and can think of the monkeys your environment has brought to your own life.
So, I've been trying (with compassion) to be aware of the "monkeys" in my own life these past two weeks. It's been liberating.
As a professional, if a seller refuses to match market values in pricing his or her home, it ISN'T my monkey. However, if I TAKE an overpriced home and do not speak out regarding that...it IS my monkey.
If a seller refuses to make blatant repairs, but wonders why his home won't sell...that's not my monkey. As a professional, I can gather estimates and let him know he will lose less money by repairing than lowering price...and then I'm helping him with HIS monkey.
You get the drift?
I'm going to try much harder this year to keep the monkeys in my life at the zoo.
