You Know You’re From Colorado IF … the REAL Coloradoan Version!

Colorado is BOOMING, and I do mean BOOMING!
As a Colorado Native I am in complete shock at how quickly our once “quaint” state has become something of a rat race. Of course this state offers fantastic finds for all walks of life. From the constantly expanding technology sector, the successful tourism divisions, amazing outdoor adventures, popular dining and brew spots, and, let’s not mince words, the legalized MMJ, Colorado is growing faster than ever and is truly a wonderful place to call home.

You Know Youre From Colorado If

you know youre from colorado if
Those of us that have lived here our whole lives have probably seen these
“You Know You’re From Colorado If …. “ lists talking about the infamous parka and short combo, going up or down “the hill”, or the cleverly designed Halloween costumes that go ever so nicely with your winter coat and hat.

But, I say, for those of us that are “really” Coloradoans (rather than the newly titled “transplants")… it’s time for a new list dag nabbit! So … here we go!!!!

you know youre from colorado if

You Know You’re From Colorado If

… If the newly developed traffic patterns have your jaw-a-droppin’

… if you think the infamous brown cloud seems to be getting bigger and bigger  (STOP polluting folks, pack in, pack out!)

… If you suddenly find yourself giving thanks to 1-25 and 1-70 for being the best free parking lots in town (E-470 is starting to look pretty appealing despite the tolls huh?)

… If you find that “procrastination camping” (ie: booking your camp spot at the last minute) seems to no longer be an option (BOO!)

… If you hear people from out of state talking about “how much open space” Colorado has and think “yeah, but most of that open space is in the vast rocky mountains, not in Denver folks!”

… If when you heard about the “old” hotels downtown being turned into “micro-apartments” with no kitchen for $1000 bucks a month, you felt a twinge of "EWWW" and "WOWWW!" creep over you at the exact same time

… If you have asked yourself at least once “they are building another freaking shopping center here?!?!?” (yep, I said freaking!)

… If you miss the days when Colorado was “the best kept secret in the country”- the cat’s out of the bag folks, the weather here is pretty darn nice, almost all year long (SHHHHHHH!)

… If you know who Blucifer at DIA is and still find it amusing to explain to “new people” how he got that name (may his creator rest in peace!)

... If you know that "Southern Hospitality" is not JUST for the South. (Hint: If someone says "hi" to you on the street, you DON'T have to hold on to your purse ... you can simply say "hi" back!)

… If you still get teary eyed every time you see the gorgeous, expansive, perfection of the mountains

Oh, how I miss thee “Old Colorado”.

But … it is time to usher in the NEW and
with a Warm Welcome HOME to the “newbies”, I say
“Our Home is Your Home … please respect it and we will respect you!”

welcome home

I hope you get this featured, Erin. It deserves it. So funny and yet so true. Your side of the state is so different than mine. Grand Junction is our Denver and you saw that size of that town.

Hi Erin - I'm reminded of a quote by President Eisenhower: "Things are more like they are now than they have ever been before".

It's so true.  Our state is booming.  Where are all the people going?  Seems like you can't drive the speed limit on I25 at any time of day.  Constant traffic jam.

Hi Erin -- sounds like some growing pains for Colorado - I guess many want a bit of that Rocky Mountain high feeling.

Good morning Eric. There is something unique happening later today, I a closing a mortgage for someone moving from Colorado moving to Florida.

As you well know, more are moving to Colorado than going the other way.

Outstanding post!

Hi Erin, Excellent job on writing about your state, Colorado. Infographic is terrific as well!  I've been to Denver and Boulder and love the area. I read this on Debbie Laity's reblog and agree this should be featured.

I know there is a real dichotomy that comes with so-called progress. :)  New folks, new energy, and fast growth does force change - and sometimes it's not always positive.  I am a huge fan of your state however, I promise to stay in the Northwest ( we have plenty of microbrews and legal pot here too - Lol)  except for visits to my daughter and her husband ( a life long Colorado boy). I do love the lure of your mountains, sunshine, and abundance of wildflowers. Colorful Colorado is apt. Growing pains are part of the process and something tells me your state will weather it well. ( no pun intended) Great infographic. D

Erin, thanks to Belinda Spillman I didn't miss the post.  Great info-graphic!  I haven't been to Colorado in many years but I can say the people do have southern manners!  Some of the warmest people I have ever met.

E~your sweet mom sent us all over! I wish that I could understand the inside story of the Colorado funnies....I'm sure the locals are yukkin' it up at your wit and wisdom!

I do understand procrastination camping. I DO love Colorado and you may hear this from me more than once in my comments, but if Portland hadn't worked out for me way back in '79, I would have gladly moved to CO....I loved how absolutely gorgeous it all was when I drove through on my way from Philly in Nov of '79. My traveling buddy's bro lived in Denver (a much smaller town then, which was why we visited) and I recall a Ford LTD (an old sedan, way before your time, most likely!) painted completely orange, windows and all and on the side it said, "Go Orange Crush!" which was a football phrase for the Broncos back then.

Wow...driving through Grand Junction, Steamboat Springs, I think I went through Colorado Springs, maybe, too...all so breathtaking!

Miss Erin  How many states have a "Native" slogan?  People only leave here if they came from Florida and have never seen snow!
