It’s the time of the year to dream and create dreams, right? Well, I’m no different than any other human beings. I have dreams and goals too. This time, instead of writing specific real estate information, I’d love to share with you my Big Hairy Audacious Goals (I know I'm crazy!). In real estate, we call it the BHAG goals.
Back in 2007 when I first entered the business full-time (I did real estate part time since 2003) and found this real estate blogging platform called Active Rain, I’ve always had a nudge to mentor. Mentor people to grow and find their purpose in life. At that time, I thought it was such an odd, out-of-place desire because I was just getting into the business full time. What do I have to offer all these people?
Over the years, I wrote blogs about anything that comes to my mind. Alot about real estate, alot about how to build a real estate business and alot of my passion – how to manage finances better.
Last Fall 2008, I was able to facilitate Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) to a bunch of realtors, sponsored by Janeil Lester and Old Republic Title. At first, I wasn’t sure if there was a desire and mostly, if I could get a bunch of realtors to keep coming back to talk about finances (boring subject, and non-sexy!) Who would want that? To my surprise, I have a very high retention rate (over 85%) week-after-week.
My husband and I have been FPU facilitators since 2008 and it’s typical for us to start off strong (20-25 families) and retain about 5-6 families towards the last class. So, having most realtors come back was definitely very encouraging.
This week, as I sat in one of my business vendors’ MCE class, I was nudged again by the Holy Spirit to think about creating an MCE class to help other realtors How to Manage Their Finances Better. I think there is a need. I think people become better realtors for their clients when they are not strapped in debt to their eyeballs and live paycheck-to-paycheck. I want to encourage them to be better stewards of God’s resources for them.
This MCE class will have Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps and my personal experiences on how I started my real estate business from part time to full time and today, be able to free my husband from Corporate America to work alongside me in real estate.
So cool about this MCE class. But this is just another one of the small step into this BHAG crazy idea that God planted in my heart.
The MCE class is not going to be a money-maker. It will be my ministry on how we love on others, and specifically our peers in the real estate industry. There will be a nominal fee for this MCE class but every dollar made will be saved towards someday opening a 3:16 Cafe in Frisco.
So, what’s this 3:16 Cafe?
A few years ago, God planted this desire for me to offer a safe place for teenagers and youth to hang out (God's such a funny guy with His crazy ideas). Over time, I saw this place as a Coffee Shop since I frequent Corner Bakery alot. A Coffee Shop, a Meeting place where businesses and people can meet. A place that’s not Starbucks (nothing wrong with Starbucks but their coffee is too strong for me and gives me a headache).
A desire for 3:16 team REALTY to someday have an office. Yet a very unique concept and not “typical”. 3:16 team REALTY will office out of this coffee shop. No cubicles, no offices. I got this idea from a Cafe in Germany my husband had shown me pictures of years ago: Prachtwerk Berlin.
Instead of having a typical office, this place would be a Cafe on one side and a pastry/ cupcake place at the other. 3:16 agents can spread around the cafe tables, meet clients but why just limit God’s blessings only for ourselves? We acknowledge everything we have comes from the Lord, therefore we want to share the space with the community. Hence, letting other people in the community and business people have a meeting place.
As for the youth, I havent forgotten about them. They are always welcome. As a matter of fact, if the space allows, and on Friday and Saturday nights, youth bands can perform. Give the young musicians the opportunity to grow their talents. Help youth find their purpose in life.
May this place can be filled with passionate people that want to love on others in the community. People with the right character. Entrepreneurs who have the desire to succeed in business.
Back in September 2014, I visited this not-for-profit restaurant in Charlotte: The King’s Kitchen. Such a noble concept. Never knew a restaurant could be not-for-profit. And running 3:16 Cafe as a non-profit cafe.
My Big Hairy Audacious goal might evolve as I pray about how God wants to lead this Community Cafe concept. But for 2015, this is the plan. How my other real estate and financial ministry would fit in the grand picture.
I love how, slowly God’s painting a better canvas for me to see.
I remembered when God said Open a Cafe – I said, “I have no interest in another something I have to put long hours in”…. But as the years go by, I’m beginning to see the beauty of His purpose in my life.
Will you pray with me to see God's clearer plans for this project? Whatever your will is, Lord – for my life. As crazy as it sounds!
Last year, I found my dream home too. I plan to write about it some day.
My Dave Ramsey story if you want to read about it. “Because I can”… When you live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.
