Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce
111th Annual Meeting
Where were you last night in Rocky Mount, NC? If you were like my husband and I and approximately 400 other people, you were in attendance at the 111th Annual Meeting of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce. The Annual Meeting highlights the events of the past year, recognizes volunteers who have help forward the goals of The Chamber and ends with the passing of the gavel to the new Chair of the Board of Directors.
The keynote speaker was North Carolina Attorney General, Roy Cooper, a native son. Mr. Cooper spoke about the economy, unemployment rates and the general welfare of our area. As someone who grew up and worked in this area, he continues to stay connected to Rocky Mount and our challenges and successes.
I have been a member of The Chamber since I began my career in Real Estate and have participated in many ways and sponsored numerous events. This past year, I was a co-chair for the Ambassador Program which are volunteers that are the front-line representatives of The Chamber at public and sponsored events/activities. This coming year, I have been asked by Chair Roger Taylor to co-chair the Membership Committee and I am looking forward to helping meet the strategic priorities for 2015.
If you have not joined your local Chamber of Commerce, you are missing on many ways to network and promote your business. The Chamber offers opportunities for you to be involved and champions causes to promote the area and small businesses. I hear people say "I don't get anything out of being a member of The Chamber". Have you tried? Our local chamber offers the usual ribbon cuttings and business after hours events, but also offers legislative forums, economic and health care summits, as well as small business awareness events. It's up to you to go, be involved, and get "something out of being a member".
So next January, where will you be in Rocky Mount, NC?
