Early justice wasn't concerned about civil rights or the pleas of the guilty. Just take the punishment as a warning to others. Maybe they did have the right idea

Hi Debbie - interesting bit of local Montrose CO history. Hmm, I wonder if Dr Seuss knew about this story -- can you imagine a childrens story -- The Noose Was Loose?

Oldwest justice was a little bit precarious to say the least. It seems they didn't take a lot of time for hearings and appeals back then! Have a really real good weekend Debbie Laity

Scary story Debbie. It is so interesting how Colorado has so many interesting things to see from the old west. I had heard that stealing horses was about as bad a crime as you could do.

It crazy to think that people were once hung in front of everyone and that people were actually wanting to watch that happen. I wouldn't want to watch.

Hi Debbie - There's no shortage of bad guy legends in Colorado. I bet he didn't just disappear, I think Alferd Packer cam along and ate him.

Good morning Debbie. They might have had the right idea back then, probably why there was so much less crime. Thanks for sharing the history.

No Steven A. Walny . I have a nice Nikon point and shoot with a lot of setting options. I use to use an SLR, but I don't really want to take the time to learn a digital SLR.
Hi, Grant Schneider I think we are all interested in stories like this one. It's the kind of history you didn't learn in school, but really wanted to know about.
Thank you for stopping by Rebecca Gaujot, the GO TO REALTOR . I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I do, and I thought others might like it, too.
You are so right, Kathleen Daniels . But overall I thought it was a story that people would like to read. It seems to be pretty popular.

Prairie justice. Lock and load. Find a rope, look for a sturdy tree and administer the eye for an eye, cow for a cow form of justice. Your Winchester carbine, Colt 45 hand gun was your lawyer, judge and jury.
