The Cardiff Kook Run is Superbowl Sunday

The 2015 4th Annual Cardiff Kook Run will be held on Sunday February 1st in Cardiff by the Sea (Cardiff).
This fun and popular 5K and 10K Cardiff Kook Run is named after the famous surfing statue on the Coast Highway in Cardiff, the Cardiff Kook (officially named the “Magic Carpet Ride” by sculptor Matthew Antichevich).
The Kook, as the statue is affectionately called, has created a stir since it was created because of the numerous and varied costumes it adorns at holidays, for special events, and just because someone decides to decorate it.
Check out the Cardiff Kook website where you can enjoy the Kook at its best, with a boatload of pics; the Beach City Café in Cardiff was renamed the Kook’s Café, which was sold in 2013 and renamed Flat Rock after the reef at Cardiff State Beach.
As it did last year, the Cardiff Kook Run will no doubt attract great athletes but will be lots of fun for viewers, and there is still time to register.
And what a fabulous event – along the beach, in Cardiff and Encinitas, on Superbowl Sunday! You’ll see plenty of runners in costume in honor of the Cardiff Kook, who dresses to the hilt for certain occasions during the year.
The Cardiff Kook Run will also feature a costume contest!
The 10K begins at the Encinitas sign on the Coast Road in Encinitas and heads down the coast through Encinitas, past Swami’s Beach, the Cardiff Kook, the Cardiff State Beach and back. The 5K is a portion of this.
You can still register on-line for the Cardiff Kook Run but time is running out $44 for the 5K, and $54 for the 10K, with a generous percentage of the proceeds benefitting the Cardiff 101 Main Street Association.
The Cardiff Kook Run 10K Elite begins at 8:00 am, the 10K Run/walk at 8:30, the 5K Run/Walk at 9 and kids at 9:15 so you will finish in plenty of time to get ready for the Superbowl festivities!
