Murney Know Electronic Recycling

Did you know that Americans throw away two to three million tons of old electronics every year? Most people just toss electronics such as: old cell phones, printers, computer monitors, telephones, digital thermometers, timers, digital watches and more in the trash vs taking them to a certified electronic recycling center. The main issue with this is that research is showing that the toxic chemicals from these electronics are making our waters, soil and air heavy polluted. Some scientists from the University of California-Berkeley say that it plays a huge role in Global Warming.

Fortunately Springfield, MO is very blessed to have 2 great certified centers. Computer Recycling Center and EWASTE have great locations to drop off items but they will even come to your office to pick up electronics to be recycled.

Murney Associates decided in January to give our agents, their clients, friends and family members the opportunity to give back to the environment and have an "Electronic Recycling Drive."  It turned out to be a huge success. EWASTE International came by and collected some actual really cool things that we used to use in the real estate industry such as: Voice pagers, Palm Pilots, black and white only printers, fax machines, paper shredders, Blackberry phones, Echo devices and sooooo much more. It was very nostalgic for some of our agents and a great topic of conversation.

You maybe wondering what happens to the old hard drives and information stored on these old devices. Well Murney has a great tech team that helped the agents store data that they wanted to keep from the old devices on flash drives and they reinstalled the data into their new computers. AS for the old actual hard drives, monitors, fax machines, cell phones, wiring etc? Well Computer Recycling Center and EWASTE International locally break down the parts to the electronics. This way all toxins are crushed and disposed of properly.  It keeps our rivers and lakes clean, our soil rich and earth happy!
