This coming weekend is a big one in the state of AZ.  We are hosting the NFL's biggest game as well as the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament.  These are both enormously popular events that have a lot to offer in terms of entertainment.  Of course there are also those that will partake in adult beverages.  Pretty much every reasonable adult knows not to get behind the wheel of a car if they've had too much to drink but some people don't know how to tell what is "too much." Obviously if you're drunk behind the wheel you can cause great harm to yourself or others on the road so Arizona has some of the most stringent DUI laws in the nation. What may be permissible in other states can lead to a DUI here. Minimum penalties for DUI are also very harsh, even for first offenders.  There will be plenty of taxi services, Uber, Lyft and other rides available to ensure you don't have to drive if you've had some drinks. It's just not worth the risk.  I for one have a rule that if I've had more than one alcoholic beverage I will not get behind the wheel.  I've seen too many drunk driving accidents to risk it.  I have a friend who's son made the decision at 21 years old to drink and drive and he's now suffering from a traumatic brain injury and wheel chair bound.  His mother pushes him through marathons to raise awareness against drinking and driving. Arizona has very strict DUI laws and I'm very glad for that. Although after big events and 3-day holiday weekends it's still discouraging to see the numbers of how many people get arrested at the checkpoints.

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert it's truly amazing that people still make the decision to get behind the wheel after drinking.  That's why I won't drive if I've had more than one.
