No not Ben, although he did kind of say we might be slipping into a recession, I mean I heard it from a non-governmental source. One with no reason to sugar coat the truth.
I heard the word from a very reliable source in Beverly Hills on Saturday morning. We are in a Recession. Apparently this EXTREMELY famous plastic surgeon (to the stars and Realtors) has seen his practice diminish over the last few months.
Many of his regulars, mostly Realtors (according to the report) have a standing monthly appointment for Botox touch-ups ($1,895/ea). Recently they have canceled their "standing" appointments because of the downturn in the real estate market. Yikes, now that spells an economic downturn.
Quite frankly I think this is the most credible and knowledgeable report concerning the state of the nations economy that I have heard or read. I'm not going to wait for those dry weekly/monthly reports any longer. When in doubt I am going to call a plastic surgeon and ask "how's business".
This market insight was re-enforced when I visited my hairdresser on Saturday She said her business had gone down lately and that people were spacing their appointments further apart. While we can let it grow a little, can we live without color and what about highlighting?
To answer that driving question I visited my beauty supply where I purchase my shampoo/conditioner. They said their sales had increased. More people are buying color and doing it themselves. With that in mind I think we might be seeing some pretty interesting hair color out on the streets in the near future so keep your eyes open.
To sum it up if you really want to know where the economy is going watch cosmetic sales, spa treatment centers and plastic surgeons offering special packages and sales for their patients.
