Falmouth MA Pictures - January 2015 Snowstorm Juno
Well, I thought they would name the latest/last snowstorm Bill or De-Flake or something in honor of bashing the Patriots football team. Instead they named this storm after an Alaskan city - which turned out to be apropos. The pictures below are of main street in Falmouth this morning (January 29, 2015 - Juno).
While other parts of the country this far north get a lot of snow, Falmouth MA is most often spared big snowfalls. We are usually protected by the island of Martha's Vineyard, the Gulf Stream, and the apparent magnetic pull on storms from Buzzards' Bay.
I will say that if we get a storm in Falmouth, just about everywhere else is going to get the storm, too. The town has done pretty well to get us moving again after the Buffalo-like dumping we received. My own street only has one lane today, but I made it in to the office and the heat is on and there is traffic moving around.
As we drove in, there were plows, and cars, and shovels, and shovelers all over the place. Every business was trying to get their sidewalks cleared and get back up an running. Most of the Upper Cape was spared from power outages. This blessing may have been bestowed on us because the snow was "light and fluffy".
Today the temp is not yet into the 20s. The roads are sloppy, icy and have lots of snow still on them. Some drivers are getting stuck by trying to drive over drifts that are left in intersections from a plow crossing. It will take another 24 hours, but we'll be back to our resort life soon.
Yes, this is Falmouth and not some place in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, or Colorado.
