Why Add Hardwood Floors In Your Home

When most of us consider updating or adding hardwood floors, we tend to focus on the enhanced value and/or appeal they will bring to our homes.  But did you know that adding hardwood floors in your home can have positive health and environmental impacts as well?

Most people don't consider installing hardwood floors as a "green" home update, but it most certainly is on several levels.  For starters, there are studies that show wood flooring use less water and energy to produce than other flooring types.  Wood flooring can also last for hundreds of years, and in the event it does need to be replaced, it is far easier to recycle than other flooring types.

From a health perspective, hardwood floors facilitate a better overall air quality than other flooring types such as carpet.  For those who have strong allergies, especially from airborne substances, you should strongly consider living in a home with hardwood floors.

The argument against hardwood floors from those who are environmentally conscious is that you are killing trees in order to produce hardwood flooring.  According to the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service, the average annual net growth of hardwoods exceeds the average annual net removals, which means hardwoods are a safe renewable resource.  You can read more about the health and environmental benefits of hardwood floors by clicking here.

If you are considering updating your home and want to make sure what you're planning to do is the right move, feel free to contact us.  We'll be happy to go over your plan to ensure you're maximizing your resale value with the updates and renovations you intend to make.  You can reach The Holli McCray Group by phone at (865) 862-8314 or by email at listings@hollimccray.com

I have always been an advocate of hard wood floors.  I like them on the wide side.
