Tall Ship Festival and Parade

I think this is one of the most exciting events in San Diego all year. This festival is an event lasting 4 days over the Labor Day weekend.

There is so much to see and do and exciting for everyone in the family. You can board the ships and tour them all day. Rides are avilable for the ship's cannon battles just like in times long ago times.

The San Diego Maritime Museum is host and they pull out all the stops to make sure you have the time of your lives. The parade is awesome as the tall ships are in full sail as they single file parade into the Bay area where they will be moored so that visitors can board. Their staging area early in the morning before the parade is on the west side of North Island. The parade comes down along harbour drive and out to the Coronado Bridge where the ships make a turn and come back into the Bay.

The photo opportunities are plentiful and take plenty of sunscreen.

The Canon Battles between the Tall Ships and shore take place every day of the festival and several times during the day. Great for the kids.

Come and Meet Costumed Personalities that will take you back in time to when Pirartes ruled the sea. Did someone say Pirates?

This gent was one of several pirates that greeted visitors to the Festival. He was nicely posed for this photo.

Hi Laura Cerrano , Thank you so much. It sure is a lot of fun and the ships are really wonderful. Each year from 12 to 16 ships come. This year year is our Centennial for Balboa Park and I heard that there may be as many as 18 coming for this event.

Hi Tammie White , You are so sweet , thank you and I am delighted you enjoy the photos. After 7 years, I was getting getting a little bored with writing about real estate so I thought it might be a nice change of things to focus on all the great things ( in photos) here in San Diego.

You've outdone yourself William. Those Tall Ships come to Chicago's Navy Pier in the summer but it is not what what I see in your San Diego scene.

Hi Noah, I hadn't actually thought about that until you mentioned it. I guess that could make a bit of a difference.

Hi Christine Donovan , I know you all you have a Festival as well and it may even get more ships. The ship with red sails is from your area and they always come down. I love it and they also know how to have a great time, especially firing their cannons.

William, the tall ships are some of my favorites...I will never forget the ships in New York harbor on America's 200th birthday!

Darn you, William!  You did that on purpose!  Here it is a nice quiet Friday evening.  I'm getting ready to unplug from the matrix for the evening, and you go and post pictures of pirate ships and pirates.  It makes my blood race.  I want to grab a tankard of rum and fire off a cannon or two!
