If I were to mention the name Elon Musk would any readers have the faintest idea of who that is? He is the man behind Tesla Motors who has designed one of the prettiest, fastest and economical performance cars to date. Their Model S has been around for a couple of years now and has morphed into one of the most beautiful sedans ever built in my humble opinion.
Look under the hood of a Tesla S P85D and there's not much to see. That's like a lot of reactions we find today, it isn't what's in it, it's what can it do. I'll start with price, for $130,000 you get a sleek 4 door electric vehicle, a Green energy certification with a Federal tax credit and an estimated EPA mileage rating of 89 MPG. It should go nearly 180 miles per charge and cost about $700 a year to operate.
It can out-muscle most of the exotics in any 0-60 mph run with it's 3.2 second elapsed time. Carry 3 more passengers while doing so plus save a couple hundred thousand dollars in the process. It also has one thing that no other automobile on the planet has, an INSANE button. Two 85kWh electric motors move the all wheel drive, five thousand pound car while unleashing instant access to 691 horsepower equally to all four corners of it's road. Believe me, you can choose either SPORT or INSANE and if you press the latter the road will be yours for certain. No need to scream or shout over the growling noises of a big V10 or V12 engine while this is going on. Please enjoy the trip while communicating peacefully and politely with your inside voices.
