A Visit with Roy
I have been planning to call my friend Roy for so long, yet something always gets in the way.
Fortunately our friend Debbie Reynolds gave me a deadline this month so I finally picked up the phone and escalated our visits beyond emails or blog comments.
Roy is famous in Active Rain for going far beyond the expected, helping out where he can, coaching and encouraging all of us to step up and do a better job.
He is constantly suggesting a tip here and there to improve our blogs or our reach through things like Pinterest, Facebook, or other tools to improve our blogging and SEO.
He also goes the extra yard to build community in active rain, both through his comments and little things like going through others blogs and hitting the like buttons, not only for the blog but for everyone who was kind enough to leave a comment.
Everyone who knows Roy knows that he is the greatest flower fan that ever hit Active Rain, he catches some amazing shots and shares them with all of us.
Before Roy I never took much notice of flowers, other than the ones that matured into useful things like apples and berries. Now I am learning to really appreciate the intricacies of some of these amazing flowers that Roy takes the time to examine and capture for the world to enjoy.
Roy has a very broad and in-depth background that I will not attempt to go too far into today, but a few things that many do not realize is that he is not only a Real Estate Agent, but an Investor and Attorney as well.
This broad background though not bragged about is often evident in his intelligent blogs and comments that he shares freely throughout Active Rain, Facebook and elsewhere.
Roy is now retired, and spends his efforts purely to help others, coaching, mentoring, and passing on leads that come his way to some of the excellent agents at his former office.
For those who have not noticed so far, I am a big fan of Roy, so it was about time for me to finally give him a call to let him know this.
When I called him yesterday, he was sitting inside thinking about all of the snow and ice that had hit the East Coast this past week, a storm that he had hinted in more than one of my blog comments had been sent from Wisconsin.
So we got to warm up our conversation with a little talk about the weather and how tough it is on a population that is not acclimated to dealing with snow and icy roads.
One important take away from our conversation that I immediately shared with some of my staff was Roy’s use of his blog content to fuel his email marketing.
Roy, when he was still active in selling Real Estate, had a database of over 10,000 people that he managed in Top Producer, with separate categories for various types of people, like buyers, sellers, other agents, renters, etc.
And each month these people would get an email with an article written especially for their needs.
I think that I need to make a larger effort to collect these email addresses, sort them and reach out and touch these people on a much more regular basis.
If you have not met Roy Kelley yet, stop by his blog, and watch what he does for Active Rain, the world and the community of Gaithersburg Maryland.
