On a Personal Note
The new year is off to an amazing start! I am seeing lots of new buyers out in the market and great traffic at my open houses. Interest rates are still low and we have not had any huge storms so that may play a part in this early spring market. My husband and two of my sons took off for a ski trip and I am hoping they don't bring the snow home with them. I am very excited to help all of my new clients sell their homes and find the perfect home. I will keep you posted and let me know of any friends, family or coworkers who are looking to make a move. I am here to help! Check out the links below for some great opportunities:

A “Simple” Way to Be More Highly Effective
Most of us recognize that in order to change, we must take action of some kind. We can’t just “wish” for things to be different. We must exercise to improve our health. We must send resumes to change jobs. We must seek advice about children who are getting out of hand.
But not everyone takes action in the same way.
More highly effective people tend to take action sooner, proactively.
Less effective people often wait for a compelling event to force them into action. For instance, instead of looking for another job, they wait until they’re fired, then start looking. Instead of losing weight, they wait until the doctor tells them they have diabetes, then eat better. Only when the situation becomes critical do they decide it’s time to act.
If we want to have better control in our lives, we must act voluntarily before we’re compelled to act involuntarily.
Look around your life. Are there small (or even large) challenges that you are ignoring? Consider a broken brake light on your car. By taking the annoying, but proactive step of using your lunch period to get it fixed now, you'll save yourself much more time and headache than if you wait until you're ticketed or cause an accident.
Living an effective life is often a matter of choosing to act as soon as you notice a need. What would happen if you acted immediately on the small things as quickly as possible? Why not try it and find out? Let me know how it goes.

Humor: The Perfect Answer?
|
|
A manager was interviewing a job candidate. After reviewing the applicant’s qualifications, he asked some questions designed to probe the man’s personality.
“If you could have a conversation with someone, living or dead,” he asked, “who would it be?”
The candidate thought for a moment and then responded hesitantly, “The living one?” |

Why Do Couples Start to Look Alike?
|
You may be familiar with the saying, “opposites attract.” But in reality, the heart prefers similarity. That similarity increases the longer two people stay together.
A psychologist conducted an experiment to test this notion. He analyzed photos of couples taken when they were newlyweds and again 25 years later.
Results showed that couples grew to look more alike over time. And, the happier they were, the more similar they looked.
Now, where’s the study about why dogs and owners look alike? |

Do These Things Months Before Selling...
Before putting up the For Sale sign, there are a number of decisions and steps you need to take in order to have the smoothest sale and get highest price you can. Here is a quick overview of those first steps:
-
Choose when to sell. You may not have a choice, especially if a job transfer is in the works. But if you can, wait until the optimal "home selling" time of year for your area. Discuss this with me now.
-
Choose the best agent you can find. The agent you select will be in charge of advertising, showing, negotiating, managing inspections, and completing the legal requirements of selling your home, so choose someone with credibility and experience. It costs no more to hire a great real estate agent than it does to hire any other agent, so you might as well get the best for your money.
-
Work on your house. You need to see your house through different eyes in order to maximize your selling potential. As your agent, I can point out where to make repairs, remodel, or stage to improve buyer interest and attract offers.

-
Plan the sale. You'll need to set a price, determine inclusions, open paperwork, plan the showing process, and tentatively plan packing and moving. Figure that you’ll be in "for sale" mode for several months, and don't try to do other major activities during that time.

Story: Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way

An old man lived alone. He wanted to prepare his potato garden, but it was hard work. His only son (who would have helped him) was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and complained about his situation:
Dear Son,
I am feeling pretty bad because I won’t be able to plant my potato garden this year. I hate to miss doing the garden, because your mother always loved planting time. I’m getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig for me, if you weren’t in prison.
Love, Dad
Shortly, the old man received an urgent telegram back from his son: “For Heaven’s sake, Dad, don’t dig up the garden! That’s where I buried the GUNS!”
At 6:00 the next morning, a dozen agents and local police officers arrived and dug up the entire garden without finding any guns.
Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened, and asking what to do next. His son’s reply was: “Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad. It’s the best I could do for you from here.”
The moral of the story: No matter what your circumstances, if you have the will to help, you can find a way.

Why Honey Doesn’t Spoil...
Honey is almost unique among organic compounds in that it constitutes a "perfect storm" of attributes against spoilage:
Most of the honey is a supersaturated solution of sugar. Sugar is hygroscopic, which means it attracts water. Bacteria and other microorganisms that come in contact with this solution are desiccated (water is drawn from them into the solution). The same happens to yeast and other fungal spores, leaving almost no organisms in the honey that can spoil it. This supersaturation of sugar also inhibits the growth of yeast and other fungal spores.
Furthermore, bees process honey by means of an enzyme called glucose oxidase. You might know glucose oxidase from something else...it used to be called "Penicillin A," which destroys bacteria. Never leave a jar of honey standing open. The supersaturated sugar solution will absorb moisture from the air and gradually become weaker, losing its anti-bacterial properties. |
