Let the Bidding Begin! Forest Lake High School Rangers House Construction Project is Up for Auction!

By
Real Estate Agent with Boardman Realty Minnesota License#90858

under constructionAfter the successful sale of last year of the home built by Forest Lake construction students in the parking lot of their school, did it again!

Forest Lake High School Students built an awesome 3BR/2BA in 2007 which sold for $65,000 and was moved by its new owners to its permanent location this past spring. The proceeds from the sale of the home funded a new construction project during for this school year.

Now that the second home is complete, let the bidding begin!

As you can see, from these pictures taken at the beginning of second quarter, the students hit the ground running in September. The one story rambler home was framed and the exterior wo2008houserk complete prior to the cold Minnesota winter.

As a Realtor in the north metro, I have watched the construction of many homes throughout the Forest Lake School District. From what I can see, there is not a crew out there that can match the passion and dedication as the construction students of the Forest Lake Rangers!

Don't miss out on your opportunity to buy this solid 3BR/2BA home.

This year's home even features custom oak kitchen cabinetry, maintenance free vinyl siding and gas fireplace to keep the new owners cozy during the Minnesota winters.

Bids will be accepted on Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m. Minimum bid is $49,900 plus Minnesota sales tax of 6.5%. All bids require a bid security of $1000 at time of bid submission.

Teri.... Looks like a great opportunity for both the homeowner and the students.  Surprised the state adds the 6.5% sales tax, is that standard for New Construction in Minnesota?

Dan--It is a great opportunity for all concerned. I hear that there is quite a waiting list at the school for these classes.

The sales tax is a special circumstance for this new construction home. In this case, the home is on blocks and is being sold as a product to be moved to a property. Products do have sales tax depending on the product. For other homes that are located on land, Minnesota has a deed recording, new construction or otherwise.

Teri, A home built by students?  I think that's a wonderful thing and I'm sure they put their heart and soul into these homes.  I hope lots of people come out and bid!

Marchel--Last year was the first year and they used the proceeds to buy supplies for building the 2008 house. I hope that they will continue this popular project and class as it is as favorite at the school.

Steve--I was amazed at the quality of the workmanship. Many contractors volunteer time and materials to teach students as part of the project. It is a great program.

Teri, how cool......moving a home. You know? I think one of the first homes my dad purchased - he had moved. I haven't heard of that in awhile. What a great experience for the kids. ;-)

Teri

What a fantastic idea.  We have a shortage of houses and trades people in our area.  It would be great if we could start such a program.

Lynn--If it is the same as last year, many local contractors work with the students to provide instruction and materials for the project. It is very nice inside.

Teri--It doesn't happen often around here but does from time to time. In this case it is easier for the students to build at the school. If they had to travel to a lot to build on, they probably wouldn't be able to have the class.

Derenda--From what I hear this is the second year and it is a HUGE success! It is so nice for young people to have the opportunity to work on a real world project.

Building a real home that will be sold to the public is a valuable, one of a kind experience for high school vocational students. They will learn a lot and never forget the experience.

Rosario--I totally agree. Century college offers a program where they build on location. Many Forest Lake students will attend vocational programs similar to this if they are interested in the construction trades. What an opportunity to be a leg up on all of the other college students by putting in time and being a part of building a home for someone. It is a great opportunity!
