Bonding over a dog and a poop bag

By
Real Estate Agent with Movoto DRE #01485322

Seriously.

I headed to the parking lot after my office meeting yesterday when I saw a happy looking dog walking in my direction.  The dog was off leash, so I glanced around to see if the owner was nearby.

The dog belonged to a delightful lady who I learned has an office in the same building as my office.  She brings her dog to work with her.  She's clearly a dog person as am I, so I hand her this year's calendar, which features my spokesdog Otis.

                                                                       Otis.official spokesdog

Her dog is about to 'do its' business' and the nice owner realizes she doesn't have a poop bag.  I ask if she needs a bag.  She's amazed that might actually have one, but I do have one.  It's one of the things I have in the realtor supply kit I keep in my trunk.  (I put the bags in they kit in case there's errant dog poop in the front or backyard where I'm hosting open house.)

The lady and I 'clicked', if that's what you call it.  She asked me if I was in commercial or residential real estate.  Residential.  She asked where my farm was and what areas I worked.  I answered the questions and she said she'd send me referrals.

Who knows if that'll ever happen and I'm not sure it really matters.  The thought was genuinely there and the experience made my day.  I like meeting nice people and nice dogs, too.

Grant Schneider - Thanks for the warm welcome!  I'm glad and grateful Debbie Reynolds featured me!

We'll see if any referrals come from the nice lady I met.  It would be great, but I have no expectations.  It was a good meeting someone in such a funny way and making a connection.

Kristin Walter - What kind of puppy do you have?

A dog that's off leash doesn't bother me as long as it's not creating problems or racing toward me or my dogs ready to sink teeth into anyone's flesh.  It's just not a hot button for me.

If someone forgets the poop bag, I offer them one.  If they always "forget", that's a different story.

Congratulations right back at you on being featured by Debbie Reynolds!  You and I were lucky enough to be selected.

Thanks Jill Murty, Realtor ! I have a black lab mix from a rescue organization.  A lot of our dogs off leash here on the mountain trails are a little scary at first.  They can charge out of nowhere with no owner in sight; there's always an initial scare!

Kristin Walter - Your black lab mix must be a sweetheart.  I love that you went through a rescue group.  Ours are from rescues, too.

A dog charging at you out of nowhere is definitely not a good thing and scary, for sure.  A dog leisurely walking with the owner reasonably nearby is what's okay with me.  An unknown dog charging at me?  Not a fan.

Jill, I never heard that term "Spokes Dog". I love it. Pretty smart of you to carry around bags too.

Thanks Noah Seidenberg!  I can't imagine I'm the first one to use the term "spokesdog", but I have been known to make stuff up.

I have never had the pleasure of "picking up business" this way. Pun intended (but, I admit it's a bit of an over-reach).

Hello Jill,  Your post reminds me of a Seinfeld skit on dogs and poop bags.  Basically that an alien would think the dog the superior in that we run around picking up their poop.

I will many times agree dogs far superior to us but not for that reason.  Trusting you will indeed receive referrals from your new acquaintance.  Mark

That's pretty funny Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint.  I just finished cleaning out the dog run.  There was no evidence aliens were watching, but I'm sure they were.

Rob Thomas - My realtor kit is awesome and useful in both realtor and non-realtor situations.  A few of the things I keep in the kit: shop towels, trash bags, Trader Joe's bags, window cleaner, lint roller, lock box, sign riders, sign hardware, paper towels and even a roll of toilet paper.  I keep everything in a nice trunk bag with lots of pockets I picked up at Costco.
