Choosing a Louisiana Home Inspector
The conscientious consumer will ask about who to use as a home inspector. This question is normally presented to the buyers Real Estate Agent. More often than not an agent will recommend a specific home inspector, someone they have used in the past and someone they trust. And most of the time it all works out very well for everyone. But, yea there is always that word it seems. There are unfortunately some agents and inspectors that aren’t so scrupulous, in it for the money and move on, letting the buyer / consumer to figure it out themselves. Don’t get offended by that statement, in all professions there are some bad apples.
When I get a phone call from a perspective client, the first thing they ask is about price. I gladly give them a quote and will ask several more questions, one being have they talked with other home inspectors? Then I ask them what other questions do they ask that inspector, as much as I want the inspection, I try to encourage and promote the idea of “shopping”, but to ask lots of questions. If they have an inspector that doesn’t want to answer or begins to get annoyed, nervous, hesitant while being asked questions, then it is time to move on to the next inspector.
Choosing the right home inspector can be a little daunting at times, if the inspector isn’t willing to talk with you, how willing are they going to be to do a thorough job and report that is easy to follow and understand? Is anyone really impressed with all the legal jargon and technical jargon in a report? Not really, is it really impressive to see a twenty-five page report and a hundred pages or more of filler that has little to nothing to do with the actual inspection? It becomes confusing, uninteresting to the point a consumer stops reading and depends on their agent to take care of it. Sometimes that can be a big mistake.
I strongly advocate consumer awareness, it is important to me as a Home Inspector that whoever my client is, being buyer or seller, that they have a very clear understanding of the inspection, report, findings, etc. I take my business very serious as a home inspector, it is my skills, thoroughness, ability to communicate verbally and in writing, to perform a home inspection with diligence, honesty and integrity because there is a family possibly going to be living in that home. I don’t ever want to see on the new about a family injured to any degree in home that I inspected and failed to report it for any reason.
So finding, choosing a Home Inspector in Louisiana, whether it’s in the Shreveport, Bossier City area or somewhere in south Louisiana, is really easy, call and ask questions. You are the consumer, you have rights and a certain amount of obligations as well. But don’t ever let someone tell you, that you have to use someone they say to use. You have the right to choose your own Home Inspector in Louisiana.
