GOOD & PLENTY REMEMBER?

By

Go back in time to the innovative 1950's when anything you can think or do was fascinating and people flocked to it. That included TV, foods, cars, clothes and the way people conducted themselves too. It was an era that produced a certain type of thinking and remember, it was the other side of World War II coming to a close

HOME PURCHASE WAS EASY PEASY

To buy a home, as little as $1500 (purchase price) may do it as there were large tracts of land that were developed into what we call tract homes. You want one? You got one! It was part of the American mindset or living dream to marry, buy a home, raise a family and stay employed. All this was doable with very little efforts. Nothing was really complex or out of reach either

I LOVE LUCY

The movies and the TV shows of that time reflected my point quite well. Community, knowing your neighbor, ethics, character and honesty where part of everyday living. Leave it to Beaver, Father knows Best and the Life of Riley plus hundreds more said so. There was no other way to live but one way

DELINQUENTS

The rebellious kids of their day wore leather jackets, boots and acted silly while racing cars, motorcycles and ditching school too. Hoodlum or juvenile delinquent was a serious accusation and brought shame to families and participants. These people drank alcohol too...Imagine that?

CANDY WARS

Which brings me to the title of the post. The candy wars of that time were the most pleasant to be around especially in movie theaters and trips to the local candy store. Incredible choices of different combinations of sweets, sours, chewy, melting, and tasty treats abounded. There was no bad goody either. Also, eating them in the dark theater was exciting, noisy and satisfying too

IT'S GOOD AND THERE IS PLENTY OF IT?

The Good & Plenty people of their time introduced a candy that was hard to ignore for so many reasons. First, the name. What do we know before, during and after the purchase? This is good and there was plenty. Second, it came in a rectangular box with bright colors. Third, when shook, it made a pleasant noise. They even did a commercial that imitated a locomotive when the box was moved...toot tooooot

WHAT SHOULD WE CALL IT?

I don't think the people who created it spent too much time on marketing or advertising. They just called a spade a spade and mass produced it and it took off. The meeting lasted 10 minutes. It's Good and Plenty.  Decades later, there it is ever faithful, sitting on your favorite candy shelf still doing what it did when first introduced...

WHERE IS THIS PLACE CALLED CYBERSPACE?

Today, the Internet is our innovation memory in the making with all sorts of capabilities designed to capture, impress, and engage both the visitor and the hawker and what boggles the mind is that it is worldwide when it does. Stop and consider this for one moment. Your little blog has legs

WHO ARE YOU... MEETS WHO AM I

I check my Google analytic from time to time and marvel at how posts have traveled all over the world to places I cannot even pronounce the name of correctly. I wonder what they were thinking when they read my blog. Was it intentional? Did they seek out the subject matter? Was it the only blog in town?

TARGET ACQUIRED...LOCK ON

Many of you know that when you post from ActiveRain, you are able to choose your focus as to state, county, city and then even neighborhood. Amazing that one can direct their electronic conversation to those areas and that people in those areas will see them. They can do the same too

YOU GOT US TO HERE

No wonder the snail mail is dying out and the post office runs billions in the hole. It is a dinosaur operation that at some point has to go. Its time lets say from the Pony Express until now has come and gone. I wonder if I will see it shut down in my lifetime? Perhaps its time to retire the postage stamp?

ONE AND ONE STILL MAKES TWO

Today, it appears that things have gotten more complex, ethics has taking a back seat, rats are raced and stress is the new kid on the block but only if you engage this stuff. If you live long enough, you will discover the different cycles of life and how everything just goes round and round with slight changes

DO THIS

Relax and enjoy and make sure you take time out to have an ice cream and a hearty laugh too. After all...It's good and there is plenty of it...to go around

I remember some of those things and they were indeed good.  When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be a post about the candy called good and plenty, haha.

That was a trip down memory lane.  Sometimes when I see those cities and countries I don't recognize my mind goes to "were they trying to hack me?" Oh to be young not cynical yet again.

Times used to be simple and stress for people had different realities. Now I have to go find a box of candy, shake it to get that old sound.  Want a Milk Dud?

Richie - you took me down your memory lane. But interestingly enough, I felt nostalgic for what I didn't even experience.
