I hope you don't mind that I am not using you Debbie.

I must admit I am a bit annoyed.  A good friend of mine called me to discuss real estate.  My first reaction was to make sure their health was good and they weren't leaving the area.   I made the appointment and went to her home.

My friend has a very nice home with stairs and needs no stairs and a lower priced home.  I was pretty excited.  The only thing I thought she needed to do was change the sink and faucet out so it reflected the quality of the rest of the home.

My friend then told me she hoped this wouldn't effect our friendship but she was using a different Realtor.  She just wanted to know if I had a buyer.

I explained that I listed homes and then everyone who had a buyer for her property would come.  I also told her I wasn't upset.

I am wondering how my friend would have reacted if I told her I respect her as a business woman but I am using someone else and you wont get $12000 that the transactions would generate.  This woman is always telling everyone how wonderful I am as an agent.  How great I was as a politician.  How brilliant my college aged children are.  How hard it is to put kids through college.

Yes I am hurt.  She blames it on her husband.  I don't really care.  I have hired her to work on my campaign.  I have been valuing her house out for 6 years just to keep her up to date.  I have discussed possible types of homes with her.

OK  I got it off my chest.  I will not post this to facebook.  I am a great agent and a good person.  NEXT.

Debbie, you should have been honest with her. We should be able to be transparent with our friends. You were hurt and you should have told her. I think she's got quite the nerve by asking you to bring a buyer. You should definitely try to sell her house just to show who the better agent is.

Debbie - That's too bad your friend decided to go with another agent, but it happens; it has happened to me more than once. Sometimes I think that people do not want to mix business with friends. Anyway, now that you have it off your chest, you just have to move on. There is no reason to dwell over it.

Wow...and that was the RED LETTER edition.

This isn't over yet!

Can you embrace a more benefical reason for her decision?

What advise is most commonly given to those who ask, "Should I hire family or good friend to help me sell my house?"

Like a well rehersed choir, the professional real estate commiunity responds, "NO. It will be too hard to fire them!"

Your friend may view her realtionship with you way too valueable to put at risk. Clearly, you had a different outcome in mind.

Gets the job done!

Perhaps but it does hurt.   I did do the red letter edition on purpose.  I was tought to use my circle of influence.

Yes she just might not want to do business with friends.  Maybe they are really impressed with the other agent.   I did not post this to facebook where she might see it.

I do not intend to dwell on it.  But I am sure that if I made a decision that cost her so much money (and I do a great job) she would have been annoyed.  I have had another listing appointment and another one on Sunday.  So as I said next.

Good morning Debbie. I am bummed just reading this. I think I would have told her how I really felt. Clearly you are hurt and the friendship isn't anymore anyway. I am really sorry this happened to you.
