Nordic skiing in Steamboat Springs

We all know that Nordic skiing is a rich part of our history and that Carl Howelsen brought much of it here to our valley, but sometimes it is a nice alternative for our visitors.  Great article in The Denver Post via the Associated Press about the growing interest in cross country skiing and the Haymaker Golf Course conversion to a Nordic center. Haymaker has rental equipment available, fat bikes and on certain days you can bring your pooch! They offer a great lunch menu and on some weekends a delicious brunch. If your legs need a rest from a day on the mountain, then consider all of our many Nordic skiing options around town.

Karen Schwartz with Associated Press writes:

For some ski resorts, cross country skiing is the next expansion

"STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Driving north into the self-titled Ski Town USA in Steamboat Springs, the first ski area one passes isn't the famed downhill resort, but a new center for cross-country skiing.

The 5 miles of groomed beginner trails are operated by the same corporation that runs the Alpine resort — and there, in a microcosm, is the latest evolution of skiing.

Trying to hold onto skier dollars as visitors seek more options, ski resorts have branched into snowshoeing, sleigh rides, and increasingly, cross-country skiing."

Wish my ole knees could endure the slopes this year.  Who knows.... Maybe next season.

Angela, this looks just beautiful!  And I'm with John - my new bionic knees aren't yet reading for skis!
