What Happened?

Life is what is happening beyond your mobile phone...

Famously, a few years back, one of the first documented iPhone accidents was this woman walking through a mall, caught on camera strolling directly into the mall water feature with no clue. Check out this screen shot of the mall security video that went viral:

Locally, last week in San Diego, a reporter caught a guy on his sail boat texting or web surfing, having no clue that a Gray Whale was just feet from his boat. Check out this screen shot of the morning news footage, that went viral:

I watched about 10 people, get up and leave to take a call on their cell phones in the middle of what was "his" first interview in many years, back in December 2002, and what would turn out to be one of his last ever in his life. Who did these audience members feel was more important to chat with, rather than listening to Astronaut Neil Armstrong talk about his first steps, (mankind's fist steps) on the moon?

This is the actual interview, I was in the audience!

Go to any concert now and it's a sea of smart phones filming the concert. The audience members are watching through a 2 inch scree rather than the life-size experience, what so they can go home and relive the concert they attended but missed right in front of them?

Our families, our clients, our own selves, deserve better attention from us. One life, don't blow it!

Don't text and drive... anything. Boats, cars, planes, bikes... anything in motion. Pull over, park it or turn off the device. Look around and take a break for safety sake. Everyones!

Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor this is so sad and funny the same time....  I see it all of the time at my daughters school- I wish some people could just enjoy the moment for what it is- coming from an agent that is scary!  Lol.

I remember two different times in my life that reminded me.... of just this craziness you are talking about.  The first was at my daughter's dance recital.  I was so busy taping it that I realized I wasn't enjoying her dance.  I never taped another event.  My daughter dance more, she was in beauty pagents and she played on a 4-peat state championship softball team in high school. I can't watch it again, but I dang sure took it all in and enjoyed it.

Then a while back it happened with a sunset.  I've "branded" my firm with sunset photos so I was always snapping them when I saw one. I still do from time to time, but once in a while and that day when My Donald said "hey that looks like a great photo" I said, "why don't we just enjoy the warm sun on our faces while it sets and keep the memory of this moment".  We do that a lot more often now.

I saw picture 2 on the news, and got a bit depressed. It's really a sad sight. While technology is without a doubt awesome, let's not forget that there's more to life than that.

I am becoming known among my clients and receiving compliments for taking phonecalls and returnng phonecalls right away.

However, it's in my pocket. Its not out at a concert, movie, shopping, playing with my kids, etc. The constant need to "llok" at the phone is troublesome and I'm noticing it more and more during family get togethers.

It's a bad trend.

Great comments all. I agree we need to capture the moments, but the frequency I replay something in my mind vs. "go to the tape" is what reminds me that the memories, not the forgotten photos & videos in my computer, are what I take with me.
