Hi Sheila, besides heavy and delicious here's the definition I found that best fits the description. It's a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch item. Don't think of it as a round doughnut, it's much bigger and more dense.

Fasnacht, Sometimes spelled Fastnacht, Faschnacht, Fosnot, Fosnaught, Fausnaught, is an English name for a fried doughnut served traditionally in the days of Carnival / Fastnacht or on (Shrove Tuesday), the day before Lent starts. Fasnachts were made as a way to empty the pantry of lard, sugar, fat, and butter, which were traditionally fasted from during Lent.[1][2][3

Roger, they work around the clock. It's all volunteers. If I can come up with the statistics on what they go through to make them I'll post it here. It's big numbers of everything.

This will answer the questions. It's the article in the local paper with the amounts of the ingredients they'll use.
