Things to Do at the Beach in Carlsbad

There are lots of things to do at the beach in Carlsbad, depending on your mood. Of course you can just sit there and do nothing except watch the waves, the birds, and other people. Not a bad sort of thing to do.

And of course there is surfing…one of the most popular beach activities. Or you can sit on the beach and watch the surfers and pretend. Or take a nap after you surf.

You can fly kites or even wind surf (in some areas). Or do some stand-up paddle-boarding. Or go swimming or paddle boarding. Or sit on the beach and watch the kite flyers, wind surfers, swimmers, and stand-up paddle boarders

Or take a yoga class, or do it on your own. Or sit and watch them doing yoga.

You might, while sitting there, spy some dolphins or whales cruising by as they migrate south to Baja.

And if you are energetic, play a game or two of beach volley ball. Or sit and watch them play volleyball.

So if this doesn’t suit your fancy, take a walk. Look for shells (THAT’S a challenge on our beaches – they are few and far between typically). Grab your camera and practice taking cool photos. Stretch out and work on your tan (are you protected?).

Build sand castles. Or, you know, watch someone with more energy than you build sand castles…like the kids!

Do something good for the environment and pick up trash

And at the end of the day, have your dinner on the beach, watching the sun go down, and hope for a sighting of the green flash just as the sun dips below the horizon.

Jeff - Wonderful tour of "the life" and it makes me wonder why I ever moved to the Central Valley!  Thanks for the photos and the almost poetic narrative!

Our weather has been fabulous - like summer today, and the next several days.  Truly wonderful. Just hope there are no issues with fires given the heat, winds, and the drought.

I love your theme of watching everything that happens on the beach. I would love to play frisbee on the beach.

Now don't be rubbing it in, Jeff!  The beach is my absolutely favorite place to be and I would just be vegging out, taking in the rays, and relaxing...... with my phone off. It's only 15 degrees right now. Have to wait a few months for our beaches to warm up another 60-70 degrees!

Jeff you certainly do have a lot of activities you can do right now.  We do as well:  jumping over puddles of icy water; shoveling snow; trying to find an extra sweater for the cold.  Are you jealous yet?

So do you do a lot of sitting and watching Jeff?  That seemed to be a recurring theme in this post. LOL  having visited the beach on the west coast a few times I can tell you I won't get back in the water.  Brrrr.  So I guess I'll just sit and watch. Oh and take photos.  I love taking photos at the beach.

Jeff, I could spend all day on the beach & never have a moment of boredom.  I do a lot of sitting, a lot of reading, plenty of volleyball, swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, and more.  Your list sums up many of the reasons why I love living so close to the sand.

Life is a beach.  Have mentioned it the past and will many times more I am guessing.  Biggest item I miss since moving from California.  The beach.  (And I guess my former wife...lol)  Do miss that warm sand between the toes.  Thanks for the pics Jeff.  Make it a great Friday the 13th.  Mark

Tammy Lankford - actually I don't get to the beach nearly as often as I would like or take time to just sit. And yep, that water can be pretty cold until summer

John Meussner  - there's something for everyone!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Call 631-805-4400 (c)  - yeah, I get that. I feel for ya! Don't miss the cold weather at all!

HA, I was there in summer and that water was still cold.  I'm spoiled with the gulf being a little warmer and it's the "beach" I've gone to most.  Thank goodness my lake gets pretty warm in summer.
