Well it’s that time of year again folks! The time of love, flowers, and heart shaped boxes of chocolates. And let’s not forget the most important part of all, date night between you and that special someone (or just you because that is ok too). While you can’t go wrong with a candlelit dinner, if you live in Palm Desert, California you might want to try something new this year. 
For a week full of fun check out Modernism Week, the festival runs from February 12th – 22nd and the events are located throughout the city. Modernism Week is filled with just about everything: architecture, design, art, fashion, and culture, and the events cover everything including tours, films, lectures, and music. For the couple with an affinity for the arts there are three different art related events in the city. The Palm Springs Fine Art Affair; the show runs from February 12th – 15th and tickets range from $15.00 for a single day pass and $100.00 for the deluxe Black Card pass, which includes an all weekend pass and a spot at Opening Night. The Art Affair takes place in the Palm Springs Convention Center; visit the website above for information on the nightly events.
The Frances Stevens Park is also hosting an art festival from February 13th -16th, the Desert Arts Festival. Attendees can experience the work of 100 different artists and have a chance to purchase some of the crafts produced by the artists. The last event for art lovers is Art Under The Umbrellas which takes place on the 14th in Old Town La Quinta; this show gives attendees the chance to enjoy historic architecture, works done by 80 different artists, and food from several local restaurants.
The play is the thing for some Valentines’ Day town goers and the city of Palm Springs is putting on two different musicals this weekend (the 13th – 15th). If lovey dovey romantic comedies don’t float your boat check out “I Know What You Did Last Donna Summer” a Slasher parody mashup of everybody’s favorite 90’s horror movies, set in the 80’s, and filled with Disco hits from the 70’s. Tickets are being sold at $28.00 on the Palm Canyon Theater’s website.
The other production being put on in the city is “Guys and Dolls” at the McCallum Theater. This is the show for those who are looking for a romantic Valentines’ Day night out at the theater. Set in a mythical New York setting and introduces an exciting cast of characters as they all search for their own personal Valentines. Prices are $45 for balcony seats and $85 for Orchestra seating.
Palm Desert is also putting on several concerts throughout Valentines’ Day weekend; Terri Wolman(Gardens on El Paseo ,Feb. 14th from 5:15-7PM, donation of $12 and the proceeds benefit the VNA, Natalie Cole (Fantasy Springs Casino, Feb. 14th from 8-10PM, tickets $79, $59, $39, Paul Rodgers (Spotlight 29 Casino, Feb. 14th from 8-10PM, tickets $45, $65, $75, and The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass (McCallum Theatre, Feb. 16th 8PM, tickets $15-$45 depending on seats.
For the girlfriend/wife trying to find an event for the car lover in her life check out the Dr. George Car Show on the 14th from 9AM-3PM.
Do you and your sweetheart love the animal kingdom? If so, why not head to the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens for their first annual Mardis Paws celebration. The event is complete with Cajun food, a parade with beads, and a brand new zoo experience, tickets range from $65-$150.
This final event shows that “Love is in the Air,” literally. The Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival on February 14th -15th, festival goers can enjoy moored balloon rides, music, and even a beer garden.
