Living in the rural mountains of North Georgia is beautiful, serene and frankly good for you! Studies have shown that an hour in the woods lowers all numbers that are good to be lowered! That being said, one of the fears/worries/concerns about living rural is fire protection. Big Canoe has developed an impressive Fire Department, with 12 paid Public Safety officers as well as over 12 volunteer Fire Fighters. Insurance ratings determine what grid your premiums will be calculated on...the lower the better for your safety and pocket book. The ISO number ranges from 1-12, with one being the best and probably under the ocean! Big Canoe's ISO rating is 4 due to the work, training, experience of our Fire Department. Captain Ricky Jordan runs an impressive department, encouraging education, advancing qualifications and abilities with both sides for the group. The residents of Big Canoe do their part in maintaining and lowering our ISO number. We all practice safe procedures, I.E. cleaning chimneys regularly, removing bush close to structures, NOT smoking, monitoring grills and adhering to burn restrictions! Another HUGE area that Big Canoe residents exceed in is their generosity. Residents donate large amounts of money so that the fire department can purchase and/or update their fire fighting equipment regularly. Below are pictures of Big Canoe's Fire Fighting Equipment. Also pictured is the burn building that all practice, practice, practice on to insure safe, effective, swift protection! As I said... a pretty impressive bunch those Fire Fights in Big Canoe!
