Real Estate Groups VS Teams. What's The Difference?

Las Vegas, Nevada -- As in any industry, competition leads to innovation.  Back in the 1990s, Real Estate teams began to populate the landscape and offered Buyers and Sellers competitive advantages versus working with traditional individual Real Estate agents.  (i.e. Why work with just one agent when you can have a team of agents working on your behalf?)  As a result, today’s Real Estate marketplace offers a choice between working with a traditional individual agent, or with a Real Estate team.

To further complicate matters, a new trend has emerged.  Some agents have opted to work together, yet instead of referring to themselves as a “Team” they have chosen to call themselves a “Group.”  Is there a difference between a Real Estate Group versus a Real Estate Team?  We did some research and uncovered some interesting results.

Webster’s dictionary defines the terms “Group” and “Team” as follows:

GROUP:  Two or more individuals sharing common interests or characteristics.

TEAM:  Two or more individuals working together to achieve a common goal.

While all teams are groups of individuals, not all groups are teams. Team members work together toward a common goal and share responsibility for the team's success. A group is comprised of two or more individuals that share common interests or characteristics, yet they do not need to obtain any specific result or accomplish any particular task.  The biggest difference between the two seems to be that “Teams” are results oriented, while “Groups” can exist for no particular reason or purpose.

Upon further investigation, we examined famous “Groups” versus famous “Teams,” and the results were quite facinating:  Groups exist in many different sizes and forms.  There are social groups, ethnic groups, food groups, and in Las Vegas, there’s even, “The Blue Man Group.”  There are Rock Groups; however, this opens up a variety of “Groups within a Group” such as all-girl groups like “The Spice Girls and The Go Go’s” and all-boy groups like the “New Kids on the Block” and “The Backstreet Boys.”  There are 1970’s groups such as “The Partridge Family” and “The Osmonds” etc., etc.  The list goes on and on.

After researching famous “Teams,” we found some impressive search results.  As discussed earlier, “Teams” are results-driven.  Examples of teams include: The New England Patriots (2015 Super Bowl Winning Team), The San Francisco Giants (2014 World Series Winning Team), Seal Team 6 (who killed Osama Bin Laden) and even “The A-Team” (a 1972 crack commando unit who was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit.)  All of these teams have one specific trait in common:  “They successfully accomplished the tasks they were hired to do.”

When selling your home, you need a team who can achieve the goals they are hired to do, such as successfully selling your home for top dollar.  This would be much better than hiring a “Group” with no specific goal or purpose.
