Why Louisville is the Best City You Never Thought of Moving to - Post for JoeHaydenRealtor.com

Check out these 13 reasons why Louisville is the best city you never thought of moving to:

1. CHURCHILL DOWNSChurchill Downs Louisville

You wouldn't believe how many people who currently live here haven't even been to Churchill Downs yet. Even if you don't go during the Kentucky Derby, it's well worth visiting simply for the historical significance!

2. FOURTH STREET LIVE

You will never be left without a plan on a Saturday night living near Fourth Street Live. This is a 350,000 square foot complex full of bars, restaurants, and special events including concerts and festivals. It's a night life hub anchored in one fabulous area!

3. WAVERLY HILLS SANATORIUM

This place is historically fascinating and hailed as one of the most haunted places in the world. Many paranormal investigation shows have happened here. Come book your own ghost tour and even spend the night if you dare!

4. THE URBAN BOURBON TRAIL

Get yourself a map and check out some of the oldest bars in the city while tasting some of the local bourbons. Although the tour has only been around since 2008, Louisville has been known for its bourbon since 1774. The trail is great for both locals and tourists.

Trolley in Louisville5. THE HIGHLANDS

The three-mile stretch of Bardstown Road and Baxter Ave. is one of the best neighborhoods in the country. You won’t find more unique, fabulous restaurants in a concentrated area than at the Highlands.

6. THE TROLLEY SYSTEM

Did you know Louisville have a fully functioning trolley system? Additionally, the first Friday of every month there’s a free trolley hop that runs through downtown giving guests access to art shows, bars, restaurants, concerts, and events all over town.

7. THE FREDERICK LAW OLMSTED PARKS

The parks in Louisville are hard to beat!  The design of the 18 parks across the city are absolutely gorgeous and with so many, there’s always one nearby to where you are.

8. LOUISVILLE EXTREME PARK

The humongous 40,000 square feet park includes a 24-foot full pipe as well as every other skate park feature you could possibly want. The park was opened in 2002 as part of Tony Hawk’s Gigantic Skate Park Tour and is open around the clock. That's right, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

9. ABBEY ROAD ON THE RIVER

Every year Louisville is the host to the world’s largest Beatles-inspired music festival and it takes place on nine different stages over the course of five days. It's definitely worth checking out whether you live here or not.

10. THE WORLD’S ONLY FULLY UNDERGROUND ZIPLINE COURSE

Beneath Louisville is an underground cavern that contains six different ziplines that are all fully underground. They also have the world’s only fully underground drive through Christmas light show. You truly have to see this cave to really realize and appreciate its massive size.

Zombie Walk in Louisville

11. THE WORLD'S LARGEST ZOMBIE WALK

This annual event alone is worth moving here. It started out as two friends having a zombie-themed birthday night and has now turned into the world’s largest zombie walk with over 20,000 participants. The event takes place every August 29th and is a free event so you have no excuse to not walk among the dead.

12. LOUISVILLE SLUGGER FIELD

Louisville Slugger Field is one of the nicest minor league parks in America with seating for over 13,000 fans. Tickets are very affordable making it a perfect family outing or group outing with a bunch of friends.

13. HILLBILLY TEA

As soon as you move or visit Louisville, hit this place up. The food is simply unbelievable and the teas are crazy good.

Tammy - Our family had an opportunity to visit Louisville many years ago, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We didn't know about many of the hot spots you posted, but we did make it to Churchill Downs, ate at a restaurant on the waterfront, saw the university, and saw many beautiful horse farms.

Good afternoon Tammy,

Great list of thing to do in Louisville that should take care of a lot of bucket lists.

Yes I can believe so many have never been to Churchill Downs; it took me 32 years to get to Niagra Falls and it is only an hour away.

Make yourself a great day.
