If you know me, you know that I rarely repost blog posts, but this is one of those exceptions.

Bruce Walter is a great guy.  I know this not only from his posts, but also from his comments.

This is one of those posts that truly shows his real colors.  I know his pain.  I have felt it.

Many of you know this pain, too.  It is devasting to you and your loved ones.  The death of a pet can only be felt by those who knew and loved him or her.  And, those who have never felt the kinship, love and devotion of a beloved one who is always there to love you no matter what can never understand the silent love and friendship of someone so dear.

Please send Bruce and Sharon your condolences , if you will.  I know that when some of our beloved pets have passed, just a kind word meant so  much to us.  And, we always look forward to seeing and loving them again when we meet at the Rainbow Bridge.

Best, Ron

We thought we had months but yesterday was the day . . .

It was two weeks ago that we were told our beloved Holly (pictured on the left) had terminal cancer that had spread to her lungs.

She was her joyful, bright, and energetic self until we noticed her breathing faster and took her to the veterinarian, and after a week of testing we were told the awful news.

We thought we might have months as perky as she still was and hoped and prayed for the best.

We were hopeful that the medication to help her breathe and shrink her tumor would give her the best quality of life for the time she had remaining with us but her breathing deepened and increased this past weekend.   Sharon and I took turns with her lying beside her and comforting her all through the night on Friday and Saturday nights.

Holly was our first family pet and she was still our baby as Sharon and I are now empty-nesters.

I didn't know for sure but I felt she wasn't going to last long Sunday afternoon as I had to go show three homes.  I sobbed uncontrollably in despair as I might not see her again as I  said my final good byes-just in case.  Maddie (pictured on the right in the top picture) could tell Holly was in deep trouble as she milled about aimlessly not knowing what to do, and she finally came over to comfort me and kiss me in my deep despair over Holly's demise.

There just wasn't time to cancel the showings as things changed so rapidly, even though my client would have been very understanding.  Holly died in Sharon's arms and our daughters arrived to add comfort. When I arrived back home I rocked her for over an hour and wept and thanked God for His mercy in taking her quickly and not having her suffer in lingering pain for months before we would have to make a terrible decision on ending her life.

How can someone experience such deep loss from the death of a pet dog?

Holly always greeted us with joyous excitement and always showed us unconditional love no matter what mood we were in, or how we responded to her loving and joyous barks when arriving home.

Holly was a good shepherd.  She always corrected Maddie on walks and cut her off if Maddie was going to cross the street to advance on other walkers or dogs.

 DOG is  GOD  spelled backwards!

If only more humans would display the unfailing love, need to always protect and shepherd, return love no matter how they are treated, this would be a much better place to live.

I was reminded every day of God's love for our family with seeing the love that Holly always gave us every day without exception.  I will miss you Holly and I will see you again.  I believe that!

Ron, thanks for the re-blog. When I lost my dog a couple of years ago, it was a difficult time for me. I thought someone ripped my heart out. I will definitely click over to Bruce's post.

It's SO heartbreaking.  I love my fur babies.  Like Bruce and Sharon we are empty nesters so they are our kids.

Ron, I've lost four so far and I still think of everyone of them every do often.  It's hard to lose a pet, they give us so much joy.

I can answer that question Bruce, and it is because for those of us that never had kids these are our babies and when you have a loyal and best friend for 21 years, and raise them from a handful of 6 weeks old, they are your babies.

I was blessed to raise 6 orphans from the youngest of 6 weeks to 21 years, 19, 17, 15, and our precious gorgeous George that passed at only 9 due to diabetes complications.

I saw this original post and truly feel for Bruce and his family....as you all know, my furbabies are everything to me and I know a loss of a pet is just as hard, sometimes harder, than a human....
