When I first saw Rogers contest I said to myself... "Pass Beth"... I mean I'm not a big movie person and when it comes to videos I'm not there yet... but then the other day I saw Beth's post on Dumb and Dumber and why and how it inspired her... That did it... I was in, so thanks Beth...
"Rocky Balboa" came into my life in 1974, the year my husband left me with 3 little boys and a disease that was suppose to be fatal and $12.00 to my name.
Thank God I had lots of jewelry. Now understand that prior to these events I lived in a beautiful home with full time help and money was no issue.
I had an awesome wealthy father-in-law who would have given me anything my heart desired but I'm not a taker.
The fact that I had only been a mother (there are no points on a job resume for that work experience) and had no work experience made it impossible for me to get a job except in a factory.... Yes folks I worked in a factory, drove there in my Cadillac and wore my mink coat but I still stuffed photos into envelopes for 8 hours a day and had and A Hole for a boss...
I think working for that A Hole was great because one thing I never wanted after that horrific experience... was a boss and one thing I promised myself I would be if I ever had the opportunity was a boss that loved the folks she worked with and if I didn't I'd fire their asses real fast...
No here comes "Rocky"... I took my sons to see it when it first came out and that was it for me...
In the movie Rocky was asked, "Rock do you believe that America is the land of opportunity?" Rocky said, "Yes" and Beth said yes and Beth also said "F" that factory job... Yes folks I do use those words and with Rocky by my side I did just that...
The moment I decided that mediocrity was not for me was the moment my life began to change and seldom did a day go by that Rocky in one form or another was not with me...
In fact watching this video brought tears to my eyes...
I play the Rocky theme song as the start of every office meeting I have ever done...
From day one in my real estate life I played it on the way to every listing appointment... Try doing that before meeting a client... My body was so charged people didn't know what to make of me...
I want it played at my funeral... not sure if my guys will do it but they know me and they know what I want...
In fact tomorrow I have to go for an MRA of my brain which means I'll be in a dark box of 15 minutes... The doc asked me if I wanted a tranquilizer and I told him... "no I got Rocky".... and I will play Rocky the whole time I'm in that dark little box...
I have little tigers in each of our cars.... to always remind me of "Eye of the Tiger"... Best in the world... listen to it when your stupid mind tell you can't do something... In fact I just bought my youngest grandson a huge tiger and wrote him a little not... "Myles whenever you think you can't do something just remember "The Eye Of The Tiger" and you go little man!"
I have every Rocky video and all of the Rocky music... In fact I ran my first race when I was 65 and came in first in my age group because I listened to Rocky the entire way and blasted "The Eye Of The Tiger" to help me get over the finish line...
So to sum it all up... Roger you are so much fun and I always enjoy paying you a visit in the Rain and I thank you for this contest...
I hope that my sharing what got and still does get me through those miserable "Shit Storms" that we all must go through will help others do the same... Listen to Rocky and you will get the juice that you need to do anything that you want to do!!!!!!
