Tuesday Travelogue-February 24th

By
Real Estate Agent with John L Scott Market Center 700512026

Welcome to the ongoing weekly series called Tuesday Travelogue. We are in our thirty-fourth week! Each week, some ActiveRain bloggers are spotlighted to take us somewhere we may not have been on some kind of virtual travel (and it doesn't cost a dime!). Here is the purpose:

" to enjoy the ride"

"take a trip without even leaving the farm"

"expand your horizons"

"see through someone else's eyes"

 and hopefully much more!

(Be sure and click on the links in blue.)

Marching across America alphabetically, today we enter the state of Kansas. I don't know much about Kansas, so let's see what I can find for your travels! I'm having a heckuva time finding anybody that's writing about the cities and towns in Kansas with points of interest, but Stacey Johnson-Cosby came through for me! She has an excellent localism post about serving the homeless Vets in Kansas City!   Three generations of women in her family served!! (And worth two pictures!)

Kansas City seemed to be my place for finding localism posts. Brookside Art Fair showcases nearly 200 artists! Thank you, Maria Morton for this lovely and colorful localism post.

I DID find a post from our resident "DC correspondent", Patricia Kennedy--who grew up in Kansas. Read on (then the next one will make sense). I kept seeing posts of hers in Kansas, and now I've connected the dots.

After reading Pat's post, this little funny was worth sharing, simply because of this agent's take on it! Don't Google It, Topeka It! Thanks, Jonathan Bell for the chuckle.

Please don't forget to comment on these blogposts and I hope that you enjoyed all of these virtual travels. Feel free to join our group:

Beth Atalay--I didn't know that, either!! How "in the world" did they find it let alone buy it?? A little fun fact for today..thank you!

Sharon Lee I almost had to give up on Kansas, I wasn't finding anything! Thank goodness for these people.

Kathy Streib --well, those are two MORE things I can add to my list of Learning About Kathy and Larry and  the sunflower state--how cool is that? I would never have guessed.

Nice post on traveling to Kansas, Gayle. Just a little FYI: Kansas City straddles 2 states; Kansas and Missouri. Most of the things that people think of, if they think of KC at all, are actually on the Missouri side. (Jazz, downtown, Google fiber, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Harry S Truman, Lyric Opera, the Kansas City Art Institute (Walt Disney + Thomas Hart Benton), the Kansas City Ballet, the Kansas City Orchestra, the Kansas City Zoo, mafia boss Tom Pendergast, Irish Fest, the National WWI Memorial, George Brett, Smoky Joe Wood, Big Joe Turner, Arthur Bryant's BBQ, Gates BBQ) The Kansas side is nice too but, like our downtown, the Plaza, Westport, and Brookside are all on the Missouri side. Thanks again for the mention and the opportunity to help people learn a little more about our wonderful city. It really is a hidden gem.

Gayle,

What a great post, I loved the art work.  Also it was nice to have Maria Morton pop in with additional great information...I did know that KC straddles 2 states having been there briefly because we missed a flight to LA from Europe thanks to late departure in Paris.  The airline took great care of us. Yes, Alex, there is a street called State Line Road and all of the house addresses that end in an even number are in Kansas while all of those ending in an odd number are in Missouri.

I had no idea!!!! This is one of the MANY things I love about discovering the US through the eyes of our "locals". They can enlighten us daily, if they have a mind to!

Ron & Alexandra Seigel --you guys are EVERYWHERE! And, there ya go, you knew this about KC, Mo and KC, Kansas.

Belinda Spillman--you are so funny!!!!  I will OF COURSE, wait with baited breath!

Gayle, it was fun to read this old post.  I don't think the name stuck - Google probably didn't pick them as their guinea pig, um, Google pig.  It was a nice try.
