It is rodeo day in Tucson! Today kicks off several things - school closures for two days, the annual parade and then all the rodeo and barrel racing you could possibly want to be a part of!
Here are 5 things to know about the Tucson Rodeo:
This is the 90th rodeo event! That's a big number to celebrate so festivities this year will be special!
The Tucson Rodeo parade is a NON-MOTORIZED parade with over 200 entries including floats, horses, bands, dancers and more!
A lot of people make this mistake - the Tucson Rodeo Fairgrounds ARE NOT off I-10 and Irvington (which is the Pima County Fairgrounds - they look the same - function the same - but are on opposite ends of town!). The Rodeo is actually on South 6th Ave and Irvington - the address is 4823 S. 6th.
There is a museum dedicated to the rodeo - the Tucson Rodeo Parade Museum - it is right by the rodeo grounds - and a little history about the building - it is an original structure built in 1918 and is still standing!
And fun history about the rodeo: the first rodeo was in 1925, to get to the grounds - people took taxis which cost .25 cents for 4 people. Cab fare today - no where near that!
