As, you guys know I went to Trader Joe’s this past week, I ran into a young man named Josh who explained the Trader Joe’s concept to me. He also explained the 2 Buck Chuck concept to me which is buying grapes that were not used from other wineries or growers but the quality will vary vastly from year to year.
They also have their reserve wines and their platinum reserve. The Reserve wines go for $12.99 and are usually from vintners that sell their wines from 29.99 to 34.99 and the platinum reserve are from 34.99 to 59.99 values. They do not always have platinum reserves when they do get them there are only get 2 cases per store distributed and when they are gone they are gone. They have lot numbers so each lot number is from a different winery or blend.
We did try the Grand Reserve Pinot and the Platinum Reserve Pinot and we decided we like the Grand Reserve better.
Overall wine prices and selections in our store was just good, the selection was okay but I prefer Central Market’s selection and the prices on Vieux Clicquot is better at Central Market but the Duckhorn Merlot and Cabs were better priced at Trader Joe’s…I will keep comparing but will definitely buy their Grand Reserve and Platinum Reserve wines.
