5 Places to Find Free Stock Photos Online

If you're anything like me, finding the right photo to include in my blog can be a major pain in the you know what.

I used to spend an incredible amount of time searching for a photo that fit the theme and I didn't have to pay out of the nose for.

Sometimes, I felt like I was spending more time searching than it took me to actually write the post!

Frustrating to say the least.

Finally, a few sites out there decided, in the words of Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary, to "stop the madness" and start offering high quality photos for free. Now, it takes me about 2 minutes to find the photo I want, pop it into my blog post and move on with my day.

Since I know a lot of people who have expressed the same frustrations (glad to know I wasn't alone!), I thought I would share some of the best sites out there to find good photos for free.

Here they are:

Pixabay is pretty much my go to site for photos, not only do they have a huge selection, but all of the photos here are in the public domain. You can easily search by keyword, and the have a number of photos of specific cities, great for real estate. That means you don't have to give any attribution.

Unsplash is another favorite I go to often and have recommended to others. What I love about this site is the photos aren't your typical "stock" there are some beautiful images, and they also allow use of the photos without attribution.

CreativeCommons was originally run in association with the photo sharing site Flickr, now it allows you to search everything from Google to clip art to YouTube. Remember to look for work with no copyright, or be sure to ask for permission and attribute when you do use a photo.

New Old Stock is a truly great concept, it takes old vintage photos that were found in public archives with no known copyrights. So, if you are looking for some cool photos that defininately do not look like stock photos of any kind, this is a perfect option.

Gratisography is a project run by Ryan McGuire, he personally takes all the photos on the site and they are free of use to anyone who is interested. What's cool about this site, not to mention the photos, is Ryan is a true professional photographer, so the shots are very unique.

Hopefully, next time you need to add some photos to your blog posts, or use in your marketing efforts, you can hop on one of these sites and find exactly what you're looking for.

Am I missing any of your favorite sites to get stock photos?
