You wouldn't know it to look out the window, but spring is almost here. March 20th marks the very first day of spring, in fact. If you are interested in selling your property, don't let the weather get you down. Here are a few tips for selling your Southern Maryland home in the winter.
Safety is #1
We all know how quickly snow leads to ice on the walkways. Make sure you have cleared a path to your front door well ahead of a showing. Sprinkle ice melt all over the driveway and sidewalks as well to give potential Buyers a secure path to get to your front door. Put a sturdy welcome mat outside your Southern Maryland home's front door so that people can shake off the outside elements from their shoes before entering. You may want to consider putting down another mat on the inside to catch whatever the outside mat did not.
Warm Things Up
Old Man Winter has things howling outside. So, turn it up inside. Keep the thermostat between 68-70F degrees so that your guests are nice and toasty while looking around your home, even if you are not there. Make sure they also have a place to hang their coats inside your home. This is also the perfect time to show off your fireplace. A gas fireplace can be lit up quickly and creates a cozy ambiance. A wood-burning fireplace on the other hand requires a bit more maintenance. Don't get it going until just before a scheduled showing and always make sure there is someone to tend to it, especially if you are not home at that time.
Let There Be Light
The dark winter skies can make the interior of your home appear darker and more drab. Open up the curtains to let in as much natural light as possible. All the lights in your home should be turned on for maximum effect, both inside and out. Add lit tea lights along the mantle of your fireplace as well as the vanity in your bathroom and your dresser in your bedroom. Make sure your windows are absolutely spotless.
Don't Forget Your Curb Appeal
Just because your yard may be covered in snow does not mean you should ignore your curb appeal. Make sure your trees and shrubbery are trimmed and tidy. If there is an abundance of snow on your lawn, you may want to clear away as much as possible to show potential Buyers what the property will look like once this winter weather is gone. Make sure all toys, gardening tools and trash cans are put away and out of sight.
Even with our frosty temperatures, Southern Maryland Buyers are still out looking for a home. Utilize these tips for selling your Southern Maryland home in the winter. If a Buyer is willing to venture out in this weather to look for a property, make sure your home is ready to receive them.
