Have cabin fever? Forget the cold and snow outside. The 186th Annual Philadelphia International Flower Show runs through March 8th at the Philadelphia Convention Center. This year’s theme is “Celebrate the Movies” inspired from Disney and Disney-Pixar movies thanks to a Disney partnership.
The nation’s largest flower show, with over 250,000 visitors, will feature horticultural displays inspired by the work of horticulturalists/ artists and provide a week of entertainment and education. The show covers 33 indoor acres, with exhibit space taking up 10 acres.
The “Butterfly Experience” was a huge success late year with over 30,000 visiting the room, and brought back this year with more butterflies than before. This experience will prove to be one of the favorites for children.
If you get to the point where you can’t take anymore flowers, check out the Fine Wine and Spirit Store for free wine and spirits tasting in the front area. They served quite a hearty selection. This is perfect if you're corralling someone along who doesn't care all too much for the viewing of plants. While there are several food vendors throughout the convention center, foodies may want to get a hand stamp and cross the street to the Reading Market where you will find the famous Philly cheesesteaks, sushi, Cajun, baked goods and farmers markets.
Before you pack up and leave for home, visit the Marketplace in the last third of the showroom. There over 180 vendors, selling everything from flowers to earrings to trees to kitchen utensils. Make this your last stop before departing since you won’t want to carry your purchases through the exhibit areas.
“Celebrate the Movies” will come alive through magical flower displays. The Philadelphia Flower Show is a welcome taste of the sights and smells of spring when you’ve had a long hard winter.
Get out of the frigid cold -- this show promises to warm you inside and out.
